    Jason Licht Profile

    Jason Licht

Jason Licht (play /ˈlaɪt/; born February 13, 1971 in Fremont, Nebraska) is the American football director of pro personnel for the New England Patriots of the National Football League.

He played linebacker for the University of Nebraska football team as a freshman in 1989 and offensive guard in 1991 before transferring to Nebraska Wesleyan University, where he played defensive tackle from 1992 to 1993. In 1995, Licht was hired by then-Miami Dolphins scout Tom Heckert as a scouting assistant before serving as the Dolphins' offensive assistant/quality control coach in 1996. He then spent the 1997 season working for the college scouting agency National Football Scouting and the 1998 season in the Carolina Panthers' scouting department. From 1999 through 2000, Licht served as a college scout for the Patriots before being promoted to national scout for the 2001. He then was promoted to assistant director of player personnel in 2002, a position he held for one season before re-joining Heckert, then the Philadelphia Eagles' vice president of player personnel, in 2003 as the Eagles' assistant director of player personnel.[1]

Upon Heckert's promotion to general manager in 2006, Licht was elevated to vice president of player personnel, but was fired by the team in May 2008.[2] In June 2008, Licht was hired by the Arizona Cardinals as a personnel executive.[3] He left the Cardinals and returned to the Patriots as their director of pro personnel in February 2009.

Like I've said before either/or, as long as it's not Angelo I'll consider it progress for now.

The guy hasn't been able to stay in one position for more than a couple years. Not sure if I like that or not.

    From what I have read,

-He was in New England with Pioli and Dimitroff.

-He left for Philadelphia wher he stayed for 6 years before being released because Heckert left and they wanted to promote Rosenbloom.

-Went to Arizona for the regular season.

-Apparently Bellichek loved him so much he rehired him away from Arizona before the 2009 draft.

I agree the jumping around thing is not great, but the fact that a guy like Belichek wanted him back so bad really interests me.

    Maybe he is Belichek's videographer?

    The "Licht" Touch?

By Sean Jensen on January 24, 2012 8:02 AM | No Comments | No TrackBacks

Jason Licht, a finalist for the Bears general manager job, has something going for him that can't be overlooked.
He's been on some Super Bowl-bound teams.

In 2001, when he was a national scout, the New England Patriots went to the Super Bowl and won.

In 2004, when he was the assistant director of player personnel, the Philadelphia Eagles won the NFC and appeared in the Super Bowl, losing to the Patriots.

And in 2008, in his lone season as a personnel executive, the Arizona Cardinals appeared in their only Super Bowl.
Now, as the director of pro personnel, the Patriots are back in the Super Bowl, with a chance to win another ring Feb. 5 in Indianapolis.

I've written before about Licht's reputation. He's respected by his peers, and he's distinguished himself as both a college and pro scout. One league source who has worked with Licht also said he has strong leadership skills.
He and Phil Emery (college scouting director of the Kansas City Chiefs) are the two finalist for the Bears GM job, and they'll interview later this week at Halas Hall.

Emery may have some history with the Bears organization but Licht has a pretty strong pedigree of attaching himself to winners. If the rumors about Belichek hiring him back are true he's got to be a strong candidate. After reading about how McCaskey has gone about learning about how successful teams operate you have to think that anyone associated with either New England or Green Bay would be a target.

The last SB the BEARS won was over the Patriots. How many has that org been to since then, and won? We ( the BEARS could have gone in the same direction but didn't) ,maybe it's about time they (the BEARS ) do, or is it too late?

I think that of the two finalists, I'm for Jason Licht. His record is far superior to Emery's, in my opinion, and the fact that he's been instrumental in organizing teams who have gone on to win or play in Super Bowls is just too intriguing. I say hire him. I don't care that he's bounced around. If anything, that may be a strength because like with Ross, he's seen how different organizations have been run.

Never too late. That SB was last century. We still have all of this century to go, LOL. I just hope it happens while I'm still alive to see it. Ah hell, I hope it happens while Ginny is still alive to see it. She's the one who should have been holding the trophy in 86 not Mikey.
