"… Well, if you're not always in the deep drops, if you're making sure the guy gets chip help from a back or a tight end and if you change the release point of the quarterback, you're going to make him better already without making him better.
"And then you have an entire offseason (with) a chance to make him better there. He is a very good run blocker. Do I think he is a guy moving forward? Yes,
I do unless some miracle happens and an elite first-round draft pick that we couldn't pass up fell in our lap, which I doubt. Yeah, he's our guy moving forward."
"I am tailoring what I am doing to what I've done, which is common sense," Tice said. "Why run it when they have one more guy than you can block? Why not throw it when you have free access and you have a guy who can beat single coverage?
"… To do that you have to have the ability to check at the line of scrimmage, you have to have the ability to have a short passing game. And then I'm a no-huddle guy and we don't have no huddle. … I want to be able to go no huddle and change the rhythm offensively."
Chicago Bears: Mike Tice is all about putting players in position to succeed - chicagotribune.com To me he's only saying that he can live with him as his LT. I do believe Webb will improve his blocking skills but will he improve the mental part of the game? That's what I want to know. I think Webb has the size and the athleticism to be a LT but I'm not certain he's up to it mentally. The guys just makes too many mistakes.
We won't draft a LT unless by some miracle an elite pass blocker falls into their lap. I'm not certain what Tice considers "elite" but right now the only sure things look like Kalil and Reiff and they'll most likely be gone before the 10th pick. Don't know if I'd call that next group with Martin, Adams, Datko, Allen, and such "elite". There are some quality guys in that 2nd tier but are any of them first day starters? Of course the Bears are famous for throwing up all kinds of smoke screens around their intentions so who knows?
The best things I'm hearing from him is that he'll develop his offense around the skills of the guys he has which is 180 degrees the opposite of what Martz did. If Webb needs help he gets help, if we need to institute a moving pocket and more roll outs then that's what we do and most importantly when you get up to the line and you see that the play call won't work Cutler can change it. Hallelujah, the fact that Martz won't allow that proves to me jst how antiquated his offense and his thinking truly are. You have to be able to audible these days because of the way teams can disguise their defenses until the last minute.
I'm getting to that age where a lifetime warranty just doesn't mean as much to me anymore as an afternoon nap.

I think that Tice thinks that he can get by with Webb, who has some flashes of being solid, and he can get the big WR that he needs.
If Tice says we need to replace Webb, the ONLY way to get a LT is trough the draft, and he will not get a shot at Floyd of Jeffery.
Webb is better at LT than Knox is as a #1 WR.

I would agree. I think that we'll see a large improvement in Webb's playing, if injuries don't affect the line. One injury can lead to a domino effect on that line, so let's hope C. Williams and Carimi can keep healthy.

I still believe that the key to this offensive line is to force competition for several of the position players, particularly Webb. I would like to draft Adams for that reason. I'm pretty confident that Adams would beat Webb, and that Webb could then serve as a very good swing tackle. We already have one G to hold the fort down should either Chris Williams or Chris Spencer go down (Edwin Williams), so I think we're good there, and Spencer could fill in for Garza should he need to be subbed out for.
We are on the cusp of having a very good offensive line if we do those things. Look at it this way: the Packers have twice in the last two or three years drafted offensive tackles with the goal in mind of protecting Aaron Rodgers at all cost. Brian Bulaga has played pretty well but is still in the process of developing, while Derek Sherrod spent most of last season on IR. Still, the Packers have the right idea: if you want to get the most out of your offense and especially your quarterback, you had better do your due diligence in getting the players it will take to protect him. I think Webb has potential, but I think he needs competition from someone who will breathe down his neck and will thus motivate him to be his best.
