Looking for a new (Bears) home.

Hey fellas (and ladies if you are out there), I'm just passing through looking for a new message board home. I'm a veteran poster from another site that I'm sure you all probably know (but shall remain nameless), but things over there have really been getting ugly. The antagonists and attackers have kind of taken over and I'm getting to old to put up with that crap. The mods are trying, but the same group dominates the board and tends to follow individuals that they disagree with from thread to thread just to deride their opinions even further. I actually registered in this forum about 7 years ago at the same time I joined the other, but I think this one was still in it's relative infancy at the time and there was not much activity.

There are about a 1/2 dozen of us from the other board that have become fed up, and through PM's we've agreed look for new homes and get back to one another. I'm betting some of them are already hovering around here as there are not a lot of quality options. I'm sure you can all understand that it's hard to judge the quality of a forum without hanging out for awhile as it is a rather personal determination. That said, You may see me (a stranger) popping into some conversations a bit to "test the waters" if you will. Those of us that are looking are generally a little more "mature" (a nice way of saying "older" I guess) and are looking for some real discussion without the pissing contest that can sometimes result from opposing view points. I would describe us all as relatively sophisticated football fans that enjoy a good discussion, and even debate without degrading to personal insults. After all, we should all be doing this for fun, right?

Anyway, I look forward to sharing some discussions with you all, and perhaps we can have some laughs along the way as well.

I am on a bunch of boards and this is one of the more mature conversations that you will find, but most of us are pretty opinionated.

Welcome to DaBears.com. If I'm guessing correctly about the other site you're referring to I can tell you that this site was begun in 2004 as an alternative to the ridiculous posting and childish behavior many of us got fed up with there.

Over the years this site has grown from just a handful of us to over a thousand members and on any given day you'll most likely find a couple of dozen of us actively posting and quite a few more simply reading and lurking. At one time I was a member of several different sites but as time wore on I found myself less and less involved with any other site but this one.

It's not that we never argue or disagree around here but beneath all of that we remain friends who are united by our common interests in the Bears, what's happening with them and how they're doing. If we fight, we can fight fair without insults or personal innuendo and the staff is never hesitant to intervene if things get too overheated. Too many black marks against you and the "ban hammer" falls.

I've been a member here since 2004 and have seem this place grow tremendously over the years. I truly believe we have some of the most football savvy, intelligent and well informed Bears fans around. I hope you and your fellow Bears fans will decide to join us. This is a great place to post and keep up on the status of the team.

It's a good site, I was on the main one for awhile during the qb wars, but I transisitoned the this one shortly after b/c it was just a better site. I haven't looked for another one since.

Sounds pretty reasonable to me. No one agrees all the time, and if we were not passionate fans, we wouldn't be spending our time on boards like these. So it stands to reason there are occasional spats, I just get tired of every thread becoming hijacked by personal attacks. Just for the record, I've never been banned and none of us that are looking are the bannable type.

I've gotta say, since I posted this original, I've been reading through some of the past threads, and I'm kinda diggin this place. My god its nice to see some actual grown up discussion. I was beginning to think I was just getting too old for the whole message board scene, but I see that there can be some honest and respectable discussion with even some light banter without devolving into thuggery. I think I'll hang around a bit and see if this will work.

Funny enough, most of us found our way here from being fed up with crap on the official board. This forum is a pretty good place to get down on your Bears conversations with fellow bears fans, mostly due to the AWESOME management of the site. Board is active all year round, but obviously is more active during the season.

From a Tennessean who fell in love with the Bears because of a link to the great Doug Atkins, I want to welcome you to DaBears.com! Most of the time, we get along on here, but there are occasions where things get heated, and when that happens, cooler heads usually prevail. I have been a member on this site since December 2006, around the time the Bears were last in the Super Bowl. I call this forum my favorite on the web along with the New York Yankees message board I go to that is much, much smaller than this place.

You will find that becoming a "post whore" is contagious on here, as there are quite a number of us who have several thousand posts. Those of us who have that many are the heart and soul of the site, as many join but opt not to openly participate in conversations. We are starting to get a few newbies again, and that's a cool thing. It's nice to see another one in you come along.

1. Welcome.

2. Responsible, adult, non-thuggish conversations are what is expected. They might once in a while get a little heated but we don't let it decline into insults, personal attacks, too much. It does happen, just not as often as one would think. After all, we are all passionate about our opinions and we certainly will allow you to defend yours.

Because...

3. We have an entirely separate area for insulting, personal attacking, thuggish behavior. We have an area where that type of thing is the norm and it's allowed. But that type of stuff is not allowed outside of this area, and we certainly try to keep it out of the Bears and other NFL forums. You won't see the area, unless you ask to, because it's cordoned off with permissions. But, if you see reference to "The Bar Scene" or "TBS"... that's it.
