Adams is a pretty flexy guy who grew on me with his route running, and Smith has the ability to dominate whatever side of the field he is blocking on.
I was going to say that cutting Spaeth was the wise thing to do for the Bears. I don't know what he's being paid, but it's too much for being a TE in this league when the average good TE is both a blocker and a proficient receiver. I don't expect that we're going to get a Jimmy Graham out of this deal, but I do expect to get better production out of the position simply be USING IT for something else other than a blocker. Hell, this was something that George Halas innovated back in the 1960s when he drafted Mike Ditka.

You caught that too huh? I wondered how many others caught it. The tackler submarined right under the block and straight into Forte's knee.

Based on his contract we could cut him without a problem. His SB was only $1 mil so all we'd have left to rollup is $666, 667 versus a 2011 salary of $1,775,000. So we save $1.1 mil this year and $2.0 mil next which is enough to re-sign Kellen Davis and we've got Smith and Adams playing for a rookie free agents minimums. Seems like a better way to go to me and JA isn't here to refuse to do it.

    Contract:3 yr(s) / $5,975,000 Signing Bonus $1,000,000 Average Salary $1,991,667 End Year:2013 Free Agent:2014 / Unrestricted

Base Salary S. Bonus Misc. Bonus Cap Hit
    2011- 1,000,000 333,333 - 1,333,333
    2012- 1,775,000
    333,333

Jerry Angelo would have said that there is enough talent on the team for the Bears to go all the way to the Super Bowl.

    Ummmm.....there wasn't and that's why he isn't around anymore.

Jerry Angelo sleeps with the fishes.

Awesome chart, Soul! Cutting him definitely makes sense seeing how we save ~$4m. Where'd you get it?

Spotrac.com sox. Matt Spaeth Contract, Salaries, and Transactions

Here's a link to all the Bears contracts; Chicago Bears Player Contracts, Salaries, & Transactions

Here's the link to the site; Spotrac.com :: The Spot for Sports Contracts :: Homepage

They cover the whole NFL, and MLB, NBA, NHL,

Best research site for contract data I've found. Better than Rotoworld and it copies and pastes well as you can see.

Thanks! I've been eagerly awaiting capgeek to put out their NFL site, but with zero news on it since August, I don't know what to think. Their hockey data, up to date work and calculator tools can't be beat - so I imagine they are doing their due diligence to make sure the NFL site matches the quality.
