Should we try acquiring Dwight Freeney?

Best guess is #Colts try to trade Freeney as part of house clean. Won't get much, but he's not playing in 3-4. Brackett cut, Mathis leaves.

We have cap space, and I assume he won't be asking to be a top paid DE at this point in his career.

I see Robert Mathis before Freeney probably the cheaper of the two but agree the Bears could use either and would look good opposite Peppers and in rotation could make for a great edge rushers and defiantly make any Q.B. uncomfortable in the pocket especially on those third and long situations providing the corners don't give 5-8 yard cushions.

Yes they do need to get younger but I think they would provide an immediate upgrade now and draft for the future of course all depends on their price JMO.

Peppers and freeny. That would be something, even if they are long in the tooth.

I think Freeney is already on the decline to be honest with you. He only had 8.5 sacks in all of 2011. If he were available, Cliff Avril would be the better pickup since he's a young player and he had more sacks during '11 than Freeney. The same would hold true with Mathis, who only stockpiled 9.5 sacks last season.

Freeney would fit into the Tampa 2 system the Bears utilize since Tony Dungy ran that defense in both Tampa Bay and with the Colts.

If cheap and a short term solution Freeney could be a nice relief spot DE like Okoye at UT. Avril would be worth spending the $ on though. Avril could be the starting DE and Izzy would spot him and do his good ST.
