Do All of the NFL Mock Draft Publications Have Us Taking Michael Floyd?
I just looked at SBNation.com, and they have the Bears taking Michael Floyd in the 1st Round with the 19th overall pick. They have Mike Adams going at #13 to the Arizona Cardinals. They have Jonathan Martin going at #22 to the St. Louis Rams.
I hope that is not the front office's train of thought come April when the draft gets under way. At least get either a LT or a DE. They'll be sorry if they don't.

Mock Drafts 2012: Richardson could slip to Bengals at No. 17
Steve Wyche projects that the Bears will take Alshon Jeffrey in the first round. Sounds like everyone's consensus is that we will take a WR rather than go out into free agency and sign one.

Here are four others' Mock Drafts on NFL.com:
Mock Drafts Central
All but one have us taking Michael Floyd. Charles Davis has us taking David DeCastro.

I don't see us drafting a guard. Look at the mock drafts from last year, and see how pointless they are.

They can help one gauge how your team will pick. But yeah, I tend to agree with you. Mock drafts rarely turn into reality. I really, really hope we don't take a WR in the first round. We can take care of that in free agency in my opinion.

Exactly. It's all just speculation right now. Since our most obvious need is at WR and everyone know that why would they choose something else? Last year it was an OT and they were correct but that doesn't mean they will be this year. I still think taking a WR in the first and waiting to see if he develops two years from now over grabbing one in FA isn't the best move we could make. There's enough receiving talent in this draft to wait for another round or two.
I'm getting to that age where a lifetime warranty just doesn't mean as much to me anymore as an afternoon nap.

You're preaching to the choir, soulman. The only two mock drafts I've seen pick someone outside of a wide receiver in the first round are WalterFootball.com (currently, they have us taking Mike Adams), and Charles Davis on NFL.com when he projected the Bears would take David DeCastro. Grabbing a FA WR is the best policy. Hell, if I were to go the route of acquiring another OG, I would go with Carl Nicks and have a big splash in free agency that way.

DeCastro = Can't see us taking an OG that high this year. The OG play was pretty fair last year.
Carl Nicks = Big, big, big $$$$. He'll be looking for a Jahri Evans kind of deal. Unaffordable IMO.

Yeah, I like looking at mock drafts too realizing that they are mostly entertainment and have little predictive value (esp. this early on). Signing a FA WR is so obviously a necessity that Emery is practically a failure right off the bat if he doesn't make that happen with our cap space opportunity. And in round 1 of the draft, taking anything other than BPA @ OT, DE, or CB would also be very poor judgement IMO. I consider our 1st round draft most likely priorities right now as OT > DE > CB, depending on what FA brings.
We have little need for an OG, as good as Nicks and DeCastro may be as FA/Draft options respectively. Soul is right that taking a WR in round 1 is unecessarily risky and there are plenty of round 2-3 WR options that represent better value as developemntal prospects. Among the positions of key 1st round need, I think it is safe to say that Kalil and Couples are safely out of reach as 95% likely top-10 picks. So it comes down to who falls to the double digits and realistic trade-up range or even straight #19 picks. I still like OT as current 1st draft priority and Adams may very well be around at #19 with Reiff maybe making it to possible trade up range. Nothing but a rough estimate thus far...

DeCastro would be perfect. Guy is a sure thing.
DeCastro in the 1st and Potter in the 3rd and we've build our OL in 2 drafts.
