The one thing that everyone has to remember about Bill Belichick is that he always manages to find a turd or a group of turds as a collective and then polish them into gold. He's notorious for that.

Good point. Sometimes specialization is maximization not over-saturating.
Arguing on the internet is like winning the special olympics, even if you win your still messed up.

That has Devin Hester written all over that remark. Really. It does. He should stick to returning punts and kicks.

Well that Golden Turd has two sacks already this game. We keeps signing guy like Vernon Gholston and let the Mark Anderson's leave. If they've have left him alone and just used him to spell Alex Brown and pass rush we'd have been a lot better off.
I'm getting to that age where a lifetime warranty just doesn't mean as much to me anymore as an afternoon nap.

Well all we can hope for ( dream ) is that thing WILL change with new GM. But its still the same HC.

Lovie Smith is a very good head coach, Scotty. He's done a lot with the team considering that he's had so little with which to work. I think the Bears will be back in the playoffs next season and contending for a berth in the Super Bowl.

Lovie has done alot with nothing, that is true . It's just some of the game day decitions that hurt. Also his dog house for players hurts too. He needs to get over that.

This year, I thought a lot of his gameday decisions went better than in the past, particularly on his challenges. His doghouse is a little ridiculous, though. One mistake will cause you to never see the light of day on a football field again.

The only group that seems able to develop talent on a consistent basis is special teams. Seems like whoever you throw to Taub, he is able to make into a better player and he has had quite a few go to the pro bowl. He has also had a few guys that he was able to get that had so much god given talent (Hester) that they didn't need much coaching.
From the O and the D side, I don't see a whole lot of real improvement. I don't count the Urlachers and the Briggs because they are like Hester - they came in good.
The only improvments I've really seen is on the OL with Tice. I thought he did a credible job with what he had and got them to play better.
I'd say that it falls on the development capabilites of the Bears. To this day, I still think Grossman was ruined. He had a lot of talent and by the time we got done with him, well..... he was done.
Anderson also. There have been a few others (some RB, etc) that seem to have been able to do better elsewhere. I do respect Marinelli a lot, but thought Rivera was also excellent

You dared mention his name. I shall go blind with anger and fury!
I think Grossman was great at times, but his problem was that he didn't have a lot of confidence in his abilities, and he came out of a unique passing offense down at Florida under former Gators and Redskins head coach Steve Spurrier. What used to get me were the silly things he would do like botch snaps from center and make ill-advised throws. That guy had all the opportunity in the world to be successful, but I think it was largely stuff built up between his ears that caused him to fall apart...or rather, to never fully develop into a stud quarterback.
