I'd go on record here saying if David DeCastro actually was still on the board at #19 I'd grab him in a heartbeat because he's a sure thing but that's about like saying if Jennifer Aniston was laying in my bed naked I'd screw her. It's easy to say because neither is gonna happen. She never answers my emails anyway.

I think you officially killed your thread, soul. So, now it's back to talking real stuff. I kind of figured that outside of Charles Davis' mock draft, the idea that DeCastro could be a Chicago Bear for the future was a bit ridiculous. Mike Adams is more likely to be available at #19 than DeCastro will be. Besides, everyone seems hair-lip and hell sure that we're going to draft Michael Floyd.

It was doomed from the start as far as reality was concerned but we got some mileage out of the hypothetical debate.

IF, IF, Decastro is there at 19 pick, you have to take him. With the overload at OG you can work out a trade for future picks next year with one of the OG's, no?

Well yeah you would but is is hypothetical because he won't still be there. No matter how stocked you are a certain spot you couldn't ignore a guy who rates as high as he does. He's a day one starter but that's why somebody else will take him long before we pick.

If DeCastro is gone I would give serious thought to Cordy Glenn who can play RT and could be a dominant LG. The man is 6'6" 345lbs and moves really well for his size.

He is a Shawn Andres type player that can do a couple of things for us,

    LT: Webb
LG: Glenn, a dominant LG is much better than the average Chris Williams
    C: Garza
    RG: Spencer/Louis
    RT: Carimi

    And if Webb sucks,

LT: Carimi, I know Tice does not want to do this but he might have to.
    LG: Louis
    C: Garza
    RG: Spencer
    RT: Glenn

I will bet you $1000 Bears Bucks Tice won't move Carimi to LT provided Webb is playing and he has a backup. If we drafted a hot shot OG I'd say there's more chance of him letting CWill challenge him than Carimi. If he was gonna do it he would have least given him a shot at it in camp.

For whatever reason Tice is stuck on making a LT out of Webb to the point of giving him help when he needs it. I can't figure out why either but he must see something there. He'll simplify the blocking as much as he needs to with shorter drops and quicker developing plays. With that I agree with him that Webb will look better.

I would not draft an Olineman unless the absolute perfect guy fell in our laps or got close enough for a minor trade up. Our Oline didn't do that badly last year. The run game averaged over 4.5 YPC and if Martz would have laid off those fvckin' 7 step drops and that crazy route tree of his the pass blocking would have been more manageable. Martz ran that offense like he still had Orlando Pace in his prime playing LT.

If DeCastro falls (won't happen) of course you take him and maybe Mike Adams if he's the BPA on your board but with all of the needs we have we don't need to fixate on just one or two positions like we did last year. After free agency we'll have a better idea of what needs top the list. Now it's just one big guess.

I can't agree with you when you say they were the worst line in the NFL. When you're RB's are averaging better than 4.5 yards per carry, Forte almost 5.0, they must be doing something right. The pass blocking is suspect but we were without two starters for most of the year too.

Would DeCastro be an upgrade? Yes of course he will but he's not a major NEED. If he's the BPA at #19 do we still take him? I'd say either do that or squeeze a really good pick out of another team who does need him and move back farther in the first round were the player you really want is a better value.

I have no problems with drafting David DeCastro but then Tice better have a plan for what to do with him and the other 5 or 6 OG's he has on the roster. If he can make an OT out of at least one of them then the pick looks better.
Stats say we are the worst team. In this case, Stats are not wrong.

I'd trade up to get him. We all want 1st Round Picks that will help us and are not busts. DeCastro won't bust ;)

At the risk of sounding nieve, I think there is at least a "reasonable" chance DeCastro will still be there when we pick. There are a number of teams that could really use him ahead of us, but lets face it, the teams drafting 1-18 have a LOT of other needs as well. Yea, he IS good enough to be taken much higher, and you guys are probably right, that he will, in fact go somewhere between 13 and 18, but he is still an OG, and regardless of how good they are, they are seldom taken in the top half of the first round. Those first 18 teams could decide to go with help at much more critical positions.

With all that said, I think it's a dilema we (Da Beloved), would also have to consider if he is still there. Will he be the BPA among 3 or 4 critical need area's? Hard to say. In my opinion, I would select him without question as he is "My Guy" in this draft, but I am an O-Line junky, so I might not be the most reasonable person to ask. While our current crop of OG's are not world beaters and there is much room for an upgrade, I don't think the Bears will want to spend a 3rd first round pick on O-Line.
The Greatest form of revenge is MASSIVE success.
