What we need is a guy his size who isn't afraid to catch between the hash marks and Floyd grades low in that regard.

We'd be far better off to take guys like Toon or McNutt in the second round who are a lot more fearless than Floyd. The guy turned down a Senior Bowl invite over bruised ribs for cryin' out loud. How popular will he be with NFL coaches if he pulls that. I think the guy is a very good college player who will disappoint in the pros.
ouch, thats pretty scathing! I like a strong opinion though, i guess we wait and see

Not trying to be scathing just honest. I've read quite a few scouting reports on the guy. He doesn't have great speed or even great strength he would rather work the edges than the middle but he will go up and fight for it. Runs fairly good routes but may have trouble getting separation against NFL DB's. Some YAC ability but nothing outstanding. To me this kid as getting by strictly on his college rep and I think when he starts playing with the big boys he'll wuss out. I just think he's huge risk but as I said if Emery evaluates him differently I'll defer to his judgement.

You're completely missing the point here, i believe. I'm not comparing their game, I'm saying that Moss had substance abuse problems, and the Bears almost took him, baggage and all (and would've been better for it). Like Moss, he's better than any WR on our team, and as far as not playing in the Senior Bowl, NO ONE REMEMBERS THE SENIOR BOWL. It's like Urlacher or Briggs holding out of every Pro Bowl selection, because both games are 100% useless

I didnt mean you were being derogatory for the sake of it, i just meant it was a strong opinion, (but one backed up with a sensible and cogent argument so fair play). fully respect your opinion mate, from what i have seen of your posts on here you sure know your stuff. i just found it amusing you were so sure in your opinion, i guess we'll have to wait and see, i defer to you, i must admit ive only seen him play two games and he looked fairly decent but my knowledge on his starts and ends with that and what i've read about him. I like strong opinions though, makes a messageboard more fun

Just sort of following the unwritten rule of when you express an opinion offer up what facts or feelings you have that creates it or backs it up. Still, it just an opinion and I won't pretend to know more than those guys who scout him. I'm just guessing that his times at the Combine will be slower than expected and if that couples with some of his previous scouting reports he may fall back farther on draft day.

I think the other thing is that you seldom ever see a Golden Domer wideout become an NFL star. I thought Golden Tate was a very good WR at ND and his Combine numbers weren't bad at all but he's yet to become an impact player in Seattle. He's got just a little over 600 yards receiving in two seasons. I just have a bad feeling about Floyd and some of it is just a raw gut feeling rich.

I think the consensus was that Michael Floyd was always better than Tate. As you've mentioned previously, it takes a few years to get into the groove and so he might just be hitting his stride. He had a couple of good games this year or at least one that I know of. And this year he had Tavaris Jackson throwing to him, so I don't exactly know if getting a better QB would be better for him. I had the pleasure of seeing both of them play, and I gotta say, I like Floyd's size and hands better. I say that if we pass on him first round, and he somehow drops to us in the second, we should pick him up. I like him over Toon and McNutt, and I don't think it's a question that he's rated higher than the others. Then again, that's purely academic because unless he fails the interviews, he'll get picked up in the first round.

Unless he comes across as a complete jerk he won't fall out of the first so it's either draft him at #19 or trade back in the round a bit if he does fall if we want the guy. Floyd has the size advantage on Tate but I believe Tate is faster than Floyd.

I just don't have a good feeling about the guy but if Emery decides that's who we should draft I'd support it. A lot of my feelings about it are based on knowing that we can no longer afford 1st round busts or underachievers. My take on Floyd is that he's a borderline 1st round pick. A boom of bust kind of guy who represents too much risk for us to take. JMO.

I just want a LT or a DE. I don't care that Floyd is a potential boom or bust player. Give me someone who will help the team immediately.
