That's my thought too omc. getting a FA wr, no matter how good, does not shore up that position. It is in dire need of an upgrade....and that's IF Knox returns to form.

Trade til we have 2 2nds, and just get O-line with 2 or 3 of our first 4 picks. BTW, if we have a real shot at Mario Williams, we HAVE to sign him; we could simply pick up a DE later in the draft, and let them develop behind 2 of the best in the game.
-
just go bpa for everything we have; we have wholes everywhere...fill them as needed w/the best playmaker on the board.
as for FA, VJ isn't getting FT'd, thought SD already stated that(although it could have changed). I'd take Colston over him, but not sure Colston leaves New Orleans. If we could grab Super Mario, GET HIM! 12:01 give him an over the top offer.

The Bears cannot look at NEEDS, they need to look at the BEST PLAYER AVAILABLE and that very well could be a player on the OL.
I know that out OL was better this season, but they are average on their best day and adding talent and competition makes the entire group better.
I draft Cordy Glenn and I have a dominant player, instead of reaching for a WR that may just be a starter

If we're looking for a Carl Nicks sized OG he'd be a good fit.
The one I'll quarrel with you about Windy is that CWill was far better than just an average OG last year. Before he got hurt has was playing the best ball of his career and along with Carimi was the best Olineman on the team. He made some key blocks that Forte broke off some big gains behind. I think that line would have been much better at the end of the year had we not lost those two to injury.

Ranking the Senior Bowl’s Top 10 prospects
And what NFL teams are good fits for each?
2 A thick lineman who isn't a real natural bender sitting into his stance as an OT. Struggles to keep his base down, doubles over at the waist and pops upright initially off the ball in the run game. Struggles to create leverage for himself consistently at the point. However, is so strong, can work his legs through contact and create a push.
Is pretty rangy when asked to pull and get out to the second level for his size and exhibits some natural body control and can breakdown on contact. But again, his pad level gets high and he simply just engulfs at the point, doesn't drive his legs or the defender through contact. Displays above-average body control when engaged and despite lacking ideal awareness and routinely getting off the ball late, he has the length and power to get his hands into defenders and seal/turn them from the play in the run game.
Displays good initial quickness in pass protection and is natrual when asked to shuffle and slide. Again, bends at the waist, but keeps his hands up protecting his chest and maximizing his length into contact. Demonstrates the lateral ability to slide his feet cleanly and keep the inside of the pocket clean.
But, he does get upright and overextended with his footwork, relying on his length and natural power to anchor. Will struggle with balance through contact and doesn't have elite range in the pass game, but plays well in tight areas and when he gets his hands on you it is tough to disengage from.
Impression: Had had some struggles in space as a tackle prospect, but in tighter areas where he can get his hands on linemen quickly as a guard he showcases the ability to dominate. Looks like a starting caliber OG early in his NFL career. He should not play LT.
After seeing more of Glenn at the Senior Bowl and watching him dominate against a 1st round DE [Montgomery] when he played LSU I am convinced that he can be a dominant player for the Bears.
All I want in the 1st round is a DOMINANT player.
We may disagree about Chris Williams being average, or above average, but we can agree that he is not DOMINANT. You do not win with average players.
Glenn can be a dominant LG and allow Chris Williams to compete at the LT position.
or
Glenn can move to RT and allow Carimi to take over at LT when Webb struggles.
Glenn to me has the potential to be Shawn Andrews type All-Pro, minus the depression issues, at a couple of positions on the OL.

Hell draft an elite pass rushing DE and you have created one of the nastiest DL's in the game. Draft a top notch DB and you've added strength to a position deeply in need of talent, besides PNut. If it's WR, make sure that WR is a day 1 playmaker. OL, look at what Windy said. Just get playmakers, don't worry about position worry about talent

Right now it looks like the Bears are targeting C. Williams as there LT and not Webb, Webb as it stands right now would move to Guard.

He is a Shawn Andres type player that can do a couple of things for us,
LT: Webb
LG: Glenn, a dominant LG is much better than the average Chris Williams
C: Garza
RG: Spencer/Louis
RT: Carimi
And if Webb sucks,
LT: Carimi, I know Tice does not want to do this but he might have to.
LG: Louis
C: Garza
RG: Spencer
RT: Glenn

Where did that info come from JJ? The last any of us has heard was Tice defending Webb as his LT saying that changes in the offensive scheme and giving him help will improve his play. I mean I'm all for trying CWill out at LT and if he does as well there as he did at LG he's got the job. If that's the plan then drafting an OG like DeCastro would make sense if he reached #19 or close enough to trade up to get.
As far as Glenn is concerned I always have issues with these oversized guys. It was the same with Marcus Cannon last year. If the guy can keep his weight in check fine but if not he'll have a very short career. IMO Glenn is this years Marcus Cannon and he won't go in the top 20. If he's the guy we trade down and get an extra pick.
But, there are two things that obviously stand in the way. The first is moving CWill to LT and the second is moving Carimi to LT. Moving guys around is what delays their development. We already saw that happen with CWill and now we should do it again?????

Well it would be nice to get an off the record impression of what Tice really thinks about the LT spot. Is he really stuck on keeping Webb there and developing him or is he considering moving either CWill or Carimi. If you can find that out it would tell us a lot about the direction this offseason may go.

Although I hate the idea of moving Chris YET AGAIN, especially when he looks ot have nailed down the LG position at a very high level, but I can go along with the idea of giving him another shot there. I really do like our interior as is for another season, Williams-Garza-Spencer were a solid and mobile unit. However, both Chris' are FAs after this season and considering this year's very deep interior OL class, the time is prime to as one of those developmental guys in the mid rounds.
Mentioned Cordy in the SB thread along with Osemele. Brandon Brooks needs to get mentioned a hell of a lot more in that same category of very huge, strong and athletic power lineman. I don't want to pick ANY interior OL at our pick, maybe a trade down I would consider Konz or Cordy, but I would MUCH prefer waiting this deep OG class out for value later on. I've not seen the sheer amount of solid inside-out guys like I do in this class in some time; James Brown, Mosely, Washington, Adams, Schwartz, Zusevics, Compton, Adcock, Reynolds, Massie, Allen, Bergstrom. I would like to add any one of those kids to our depth as multiple spot backups.
Mosley is quickly becoming my favorite low-key OL along with Massie. Both those guys have some ridiculous feet and unlike most, I like both their chances at LT. I think at worst with those guys, you have two very big upside guards at the cost of a 2 or 3.
