Well we do agree on one thing and that's the need for the Bears to take the best guy on their board if they remain at that #19 spot. The other option is to determine who they prefer as a can't miss guy and maneuver into position to draft him either moving up or down to do so.

We know that Angelo had an aversion to giving up his picks to trade up but loved collecting them to trade down. So far we don't know how Emery will approach it. I do think it's best to fill your most dire needs in FA. You're signing known quantities who you know will fit your systems and what level of play they're capable of.

Based on this, signing a WR is a must and a pass rusher a DE second must. We should probably get at least one DB in FA as well either a SS or as CB. LT is still a need but the likelihood of filling it in FA is doubtful. So if we can fill those needs it frees up some options as far as the early rounds of draft are concerned. Position becomes far less important than getting an impact player who can start day one.

Bottom line is it's all conjecture until we know how the exact needs will be filled and where in the draft we can go BPA as opposed to filling a need. There are enough positions where we either need immediate help or younger depth that that we can't avoid helping ourselves as long as Emery knows his stuff.

I agree, too, that we need to go for BPA. There is a very good chance that it could give us Adams or someone like Cordy Glenn on the offensive line. But I also like the idea of trading up a second and something else with the idea of getting into the top ten of the draft and picking up either Reiff, Martin, or Coples (preferably one of the OTs). We have a lot of options on the table right now to look at. I think it's time for Emery to use his authority and force Mike Tice to accept the fact that Webb is not a viable option at LT anymore.

So basically unless Kalil falls to us, I have even doubts about Reiff, we're not picking an LT. Unless Tice sees an elite prospect, he's not jumping. The Bears have the utmost confidence in Webb.

You cannot get into the top 10 w/our 1st and 2nd. it doesn't add up; and it's not worth it to lose that 2 capable starters for 1 when we need more then just that one position.

We can get to about #10 or #11 and that's about the best we could do. I'd consider a move like that if there was a specific can't miss guy who was the perfect fit for one of our needs but only because we have a second third round pick and there will still be some decent talent on the board then.

The other deciding factor would be how well we made out if FA. If we filled major needs at WR and DE and could trade up for a Reiff or a Coples I might do it.

Maybe Soul, but again I don't look at filling the WR spot in FA as fixing the problem. We will still need to get another WR that can compete/play day 1, and we'll need to get him through the draft. So if we get a DE and a WR in FA, we still need to get an OT WR, 2DB's(imo) w/those early picks. And then get a LB/DE/C later in the draft to develop

We aren't getting a starting OT in the draft.

Now THAT is what I've been thinking all along, sadly. I think that Tice and Lovie are more than happy with Webb's play and that Webb will be the starting LT for the Chicago Bears going into next season with ZERO competition, even though Webb and the 12 sacks he allowed and also the almost 20 penalties he committed doesn't deserve the job.

So that takes away LT on the Bears draft list...we already have Chris Williams, Garza, Spencer/Louis and Carimi, so it seems like, according to the Bears anyways, that the Bears OL is set. So where do we go from there?? DE? WR? CB? DT? TE to help chip-block because Webb is horrible, thus taking away an extra receiver? FS? SS? RB? Which direction do the Chicago Bears go with the #19 overall pick, if not offensive line??

Personally, I hate the thought of 1st round WR's. Unless it's Blackmon at #19, I'm not in love with any of the other WR's that currently have 1st round grades. Rookie WR's in general, tend to not contribute immediately and that is what the Bears need...a player to step in and contribute immediately. Let's just look at Mayock's top 5 WR's:

1) Justin Blackmon - Big time playmaker throughout his college career and a guy who probably won't make it out of the top 10, unless teams think they can't handle his ego.

2) Michael Floyd - Talented kid, but question marks surround him big time. I honestly wouldn't be surprised to see after the scouting combine, that Floyd had somehow managed to fall out of the 1st round grade. But nonetheless, I do like this kid and think he could help our offense, though I'm not overly excited about using #19 overall on him.

3) Kendall Wright - Speedster, but only listed at 5'10" and maybe 190lbs. Sounds like the other WR's we have on this roster (Hester, Knox, Sanzenbacher, Bennett). We need to add a WR with some size, so with that in mind, I'm NOT taking Wright at #19.

4) Alshon Jeffrey - Huge WR at 6'4" and 230lbs. Big body, big frame, catches almost everything thrown at him with his enourmous hands...BUT, speed is an issue with him and his draft slot really depends on his 40 time more than anything else. IF his 40 time is good, he's a first round pick, but do the Bears want to take a chance on him, given his weight issues?

5) Chris Givens - Why Mayock has this kid listed in his top 5 is beyond me. Especially with WR's like Sanu, Criner, Broyles, Toon, Jones, McNutt, and even Joe Adams who was the star of the Senior Bowl, all on the list. I really don't understand Mayocks infatuation with Givens, considering he had one good year and is already wanting to jump to the NFL, but nonetheless, I'm NOT taking Givens in the 1st round AT ALL.

So with that in mind, I DO like the possibility of the Bears trading back in the first round and acquiring an extra draft pick or two and still drafting a WR.

Regardless of which direction Emery and the Bears go with the 19th pick, I just want the Bears to draft the BEST PLAYER AVAILABLE...one who is going to contribute from day 1 and hopefully one day, become a star in the league.

Oh no, the Bears are not happy with his production, but they're positive that he's going to improve, which he absolutely will. But the Bears think that they'll see him become a stud, which let's face it, wasn't going to happen this past season. How long has he been at LT? He needs time to develop into the position, but most teams allow that to happen while they aren't starting all season. We just didn't have another choice. He has the size and the athleticism to be a great LT, but he needs time to develop. I think we'll see him do a lot better this next year, and if we don't, I don't think that the Bears will keep their faith in him. You know, I'm no professional, that's what Tice and the other O-Line coaches are for, and they have the confidence that he will develop into our LT. That's enough for me right now.
