He needs time to develop into the position, but most teams allow that to happen while they aren't starting all season. We just didn't have another choice. He has the size and the athleticism to be a great LT, but he needs time to develop. I think we'll see him do a lot better this next year, and if we don't, I don't think that the Bears will keep their faith in him. You know, I'm no professional, that's what Tice and the other O-Line coaches are for, and they have the confidence that he will develop into our LT. That's enough for me right now.
True. Well let's hope that this last season of starting at LT and sucking, along with the half a season he started at RT and wasn't very good were just a mirage and he develops into a solid starter. I have my doubts and I really hate the thought of having to leave in a RB or TE to help Webb out every passing play because he lacks the talent to handle his man one on one.

You could always have OMYFail starting in place of Webb.

So if we get a DE and a WR in FA, we still need to get an OT WR, 2DB's(imo) w/those early picks. And then get a LB/DE/C later in the draft to develop
Some of the need at WR hinges on Knox's recovery. If he returns 100% by training camp alternating him with Bennett at the #2 spot would most likely give us three pretty good receivers. Knox had very good year and 2010 but the RWill experiment just set him back by his not seeing the field as much he would have had that not happened. Bennett was truly breaking out as Cutler's go to guy in the clutch before Jay went down and then Hanie couldn't find him if he was made of neon.

Sanz may continue to develop, the kid has potential. He gets open he just needs to get over the dropsies. Depending on how we play that first round there will still be good WR talent on the board in the second and third round. If it were me I wouldn't take one in the first anyway unless we traded down and took a guy like Sanu or maybe Jeffrey or Floyd somewhere near the bottom of round one. We could pick up another 2nd if we dropped back that far. We fill more needs but probably miss out on that real impact player. I kind of like where we're at. There should be some options to consider.

Regardless of how Tice sees him now this has to be Webb's make or break year. He gets some slack for the fact that this was his first year at LT but if doesn't improve dramatically in both protection and the mental mistakes he makes then you have to take him out.

The problem is that this crop of LT's seems better at the top end than last years which was decent. If we don't take a guy capable to pushing him and replacing him early next year's crop may not be as good and if we return to a playoff caliber team, which we should, we also may be too far down the list to find one.

If we decide not to draft a LT very high this year then I would use a mid round pick on the best prospect I could find who, with time and good coaching, is capable of playing LT in the NFL and work at it that way. Good LT's virtually never see FA which is why teams need to draft them although one possibility is that Bushrod will become a FA after the 2012 season if NO doesn't extend his deal. Maybe we can get a shot at him second time around.

Knox wasn't great before, he struggled to run a slant correctly still. He's not spectacular. As for Sanz...well you have more faith then I do. That kid isn't a poor mans wes welker he's a 3rd world country, on the verge of starvation mans Wes Welker.
This group needs a legit 1-2 punch, and let the current group of 2's and 3's and lower fight for a job/playing time.

I still want to kill Jerry Angelo for not signing Bushrod. He low-balled on that situation big time.

Talk about chickens coming home to roost...

This has to be JA's biggest fuck up last year. It's at least up there with the Hanie/Williams fiascos. If JA had got us Bushrod last year, we still would have enough cap space to get a FA WR and would be free to aggressively pursue a beast DE or a stud CB in round 1 of the draft. Instead we are scrambling for ways to meet our other needs while knowing that we have a 7th round backup (dare i say failure?) starting at the most vital position for protecting Cutler. This organization's ridiculous over-confidence in Webb as a starting OT is similar to their insistence for years that Hester was a legit #1 WR. Both have left us with important holes that are tough and/or expensive to fill for the upcoming year. Utter failure of the GM and coaching staff to properly evaluate and plan for needs.

It's crazy to me that some, including seemingly Tice, sound willing to settle for something LESS than mediocrity at LT. It's the weakest position on the team ( yes even weaker than WR , CB + DE ). The WR's they can get in the draft ( 2nd rd etc ) and another they can get in FA.
If it was me spending the 1st rd choice on a LT is a no brainer - I don't see how NOT FIXING the biggest problem on this team gives the Bears a fighting chance going into next season. WATCH what happens if they don't.
What should you call any : Fumble , Hold , Interception , Three and out , or Sack ?

    A " F.H.I.T.S " ? or a J'Marcus ?

I am interested to see how Webb plays without the idiotic Mike Martz offense being called and putting him in terrible positions every play.

I think Webb is better than any WR on this team, outside of Bennett, and that WR is a bigger need.

I think we need to bring in competition at OT this season either in free agency or the draft and allow Carimi, Webb and the new guy to compete for the LT spot.

Then he better be working his nuts off this off-season and there better be real improvement out of him going into camp or he's gonna be a disaster ... again.
