Knox played in 3 more games 45 vs 42 but caught fewer passes 133 vs 156. Their cummulative yardage is not even 100 yards different but Knox average about 2 yards more per catch. Manningham has scored more TD's but what receivers don't usually score more often than Bears receivers do considering the handicaps our passing game is usually under.
So how much difference is there really? If that circus catch was made by Knox instead would anyone be calling for Manningham? But if you want to give me Hakeem Nicks I'll start clearing a locker for him today.
Years of experience...or year? He's got 1 more year on Knox. Where's the big difference? TD' and Fumbles and receptions...and that is on a team where he's got to fight for playing time w/2 other legit WR options, and also on a run first team. And yes he plays much bigger then he is, and knox plays smaller. Knox will not go up and get a pass, nor will he fight for a pass in coverage. It's not a grass is always greener, it's one is a better player. That probably has more to do w/coaching, but it also has to do w/toughness.

The OL is going to make our WR's run the correct routes, go up and get passes in traffic, or come back and help the QB? No sorry, the OL will give them more time sure, but there is a fundamental problem w/our WR's and it's a lack of toughness and agressiveness.
So how to we fix that problem? We get off our asses in FA and get us a Hakeem Nicks that's what we do. How much better does having a Hakeem Nicks who provides a consistent threat between the hashes make Cruz and Manningham.
We do need a bigger over the middle guy, we had one, but we traded him b/c he wasn't Mike Ditka...but to think that is the final and only answer is foolish, Knox is not near as polished as Cruz or Manningham, and well I won't even mention Hester who's not even in the same hemisphere as those guys.
Manningham made a stupendous catch and I take nothing away from that at all but did everyone notice that the safety was late getting over because they had to respect Nicks and that's why Manningham was one on one with the CB? We need a Hakeem Nicks not another Johnny Knox clone and an Oline that can give Cutler the kind of protection Eli gets. That should be the focus. MM is just another #2 or #3 wideout and that we have in abundance.
No he makes those catches, as someone else mentioned, he made another one in the playoffs too...it's not catches our WR's make. Is he that big #1 wr go up and get it guy, no but he's still a damn site better then what he have outside of Bennett.

I keep hearing the stat that during the regular season Manningham was 0 for 9 on passes to him over 31 yards. Now, I haven't seen those nine plays, but it seems like he should have come down with at least a couple of those.

I'm not as sold on MM as some here. He's NOT a true #1 and we can do much better in FA than him. With a TRUE #1 play maker our other WR's will be better as well. We also need to draft a couple more to develop. JMHO though.

Omc, I'm not saying he's a true #1, or the guy we should target, but I do think he's an upgrade over the guys we have(minus bennett). I'd take Jackson, Colston, Stevie, all over MM.

Give me Manningham all day over what we have
Sorry brother but that's bullshit. How can Knox have almost identical yardage and a higher apc by almost two yards per catch and you claim he can't make the catches MM makes. I'd say it was Knox who made the better catches.
Is everyone gonna jump on the MM train just becuase he made a clutch catch in the Super Bowl. Can I say that he cost the Giants a key first down by mis-running his route a few series prior to that and Cris Collinsworth called him out on the broadcast for that.
We don't need another 6' 185lb WR unless Knox's career is over. We already have him and a 5'11" 190lb Devin Hester and a 5'11" 180 Dane Sanzenbacher. We need a 6'2" or 6'3" inch 220lb guy who can go over the middle.
MM was a #3 receiver in NY does anyone honestly feel he'd come here and be the #1 we need. If so you're all dreaming and drinking Mario Manningham kool-aid today. If I wanted any WR on that team it would be Nicks. We have the other bases covered.

And we should but there is absolutely nothing in their comparative stats that indicates MM is a superior WR to Johnny Knox Ric. I posted their stats from the NFL Official Website. MM has more TD, Knox has a higher YPC, they're within 100 yards of one another for total yardage the last 3 seasons but MM has more receptions.
Considering they're both the exact same size you couldn't ask for two guys any more equal than those two. We can sign him as a FA in case Knox doesn't make it back or to replace Sanz but lacking that we don't really need him. I'd spend the $$$ elsewhere.

MM runs better routes, and makes catches that Knox wouldn't. that's fact. Again, Knox cannot even run a correct slant, and sure to hell will not fight for a ball.
Again I'm not saying we should go get him as our 1, but he's better then Knox. It's not even questionable. You go ask 100 fans not from the Giants or Chicago and not one person would want Knox over MM; fact.

absolutely. That one is a no brainer. They are all excellent
