Do the Bears Want Mario Manningham?................
I've already dismissed this as being a bad idea in another thread but we may as well debate it here in detail in anyone cares to.
I'm not gonna post everything I did there. All I'l say is that unless Knox's career is over we don't need Manningham. He and Knox are vitually the same guy identical in size and with very similar stats. Actually Knox is within 100 yards of MM over the past three seasons and has a higher average per catch.
We need a Hakeem Nicks not a Mario Mannigham.

I agree. Although MM is probably an upgrade to our WR corps (esp. if Knox doesn't return 100%), I firmly believe that the organization must aim higher than that as a FA WR acquisition. We have cap space, other likely options, and a huge #1 need to fill...MM would be "settling" big time and we have had enough of that.
-
MM runs better routes, doesn't cut off slants, fights for balls, and can go up and get it. I said it in the other thread, MM plays bigger then he is, Knox plays smaller. Knox is the same size as Bennett, and you wouldn't know it by his play. MM you would.
Is that that guy we should target to be our #1, no. But would he be an upgrade over Knox...yes w/out question.
He has more TD's, less fumbles and more receptions also and yards, he has less yac, but that might have to do w/the fact that he has Nicks and Cruz as deep guys also, and Knox is the only deep threat on this team.

Height, yes. However, Bennett has a good 15-20 pounds of muscle on him.
As for Mario. He's even less of a #1 than Earl. A nice complementary receiver in an aerial attack that spreads the ball around a ton, but I think we can get that in reuniting Cutler with Eddie Royal on the cheap.

If we want an injury prone good number two wr I would rather have Malcolm Floyd especially since we prob won't have Knox down field ability next season

You couldn't be more wrong Ric so I'll show you why. First of all Bennett is taller and 20lbs heavier than Knox so we could stop there. If MM always runs better routes why was he being criticized for his lack of precision on just that a short time before "the catch"? Does MM even run slants none of us have seen many Giant games but from what I've seen he pretty much works outside the hash marks and down-field. Again we haven't seen enough of MM to know whether or not he fights or goes up for balls. Unless you've seen most of the Giants games that's pure speculation. Whether or not MM plays bigger than Knox is a matter of opinion.
TD's I'll give you 18 to 12 but I'd expect that given that he plays in a better passing offense. Fumbles lost as well 2 for MM and 4 for Knox but 2 over three years isn't a huge difference. It's not like Knox has fumbled a dozen times or more. He's only fumbled once each in the last two seasons including the one this year that nearly got him paralyzed.
More receptions, yes 156 to 133, but their yardage is nearly equal MM =2289, JK=2214 which gives Knox a 16.6 ypc avg. vs 14.7 for MM. This past year which should have been a breakout year for both Knox and MM their number of catches was about equal MM=39 JK=37 but Knox out gains him by over 200 yards and missed two games and part of another.
These two guy are about as equal as equal can be by the numbers and all the rest is just speculation. We see Knox every week and are fully aware of his shortcomings but we can't say the same about MM. I say that all this hoopla over MM comes from one great catch in his biggest
game of the year. Before Sunday his name didn't come up once on the list of guys we should be looking at in FA. That should be a sign that he's not what some give him credit for being.

We need a #1 and #2 WR this offseason regardless if that is in the draft or free agency.

I'd take Royal over MM but unless Knox is through it's more likely Royal replaces Sanz. Royal isn't the down-field threat that Knox is. MM is getting way over hyped compared to his worth because of that catch.

Floyd isn't a FA this year mo. SD re-signed him last year through 2012. Next year he's an UFA.
