In his latest mock draft, ESPN analyst Todd McShay is predicting that the Bears will select Baylor wide receiver Kendall Wright with the 19th pick in the first round.
“The Bears have not spent a first-round pick on a wide receiver since David Terrell in 2001, and at some point they have to pull the trigger on a playmaker for QB Jay Cutler,” McShay writes. “A versatile speedster who can threaten defenses vertically and is dangerous after the catch, Wright is on the rise after catching 108 passes for 1,663 yards and hauling in 14 touchdowns in 2011.”
Wright is the second receiver off the board in McShay’s mock draft, following Oklahoma State’s Justin Blackmon, who is projected to be chosen by the Redskins at No. 6. The only other receiver in McShay’s first round is Notre Dame’s Michael Floyd to the Browns at No. 22.
The Bears have eight picks in the 2012 draft, including four of the first 81 selections. They’ll pick 18th in the second round, 17th in the third, 16th in the fourth, 15th in the fifth, 14th in the sixth and 13th in the seventh. They will also select ninth in the third round with the pick they acquired from the Panthers in exchange for tight end Greg Olsen
