Guess we'll have to wait all of this out to see who gets tagged and who doesn't but I'd say it's probably better than 50-50 he does since they tendered him at the highest level they could last year when he was a RFA.
you might be right but the price tag has been set and two second rounders for a guy KC doesnt plan a long term contract with is pretty good. Consider also they have a big contract in Breaston and a first rounder that I think was drafted to replace Bowe anyways

Colston or Jax or Bowe

Not to mention you don't know what is going to be up w/Knox anyways. Expecting him to be fine is what got the Colts the 1st pick in the draft, and I'm sure that is not how they wanted their season to go...even if it does turn out well.
So what happens if you spend that 1st round pick on one of those WR and he can't even beat out Bennett and that's entirely possible. Both Floyd and Jefferey have some flaws and most rookie WR's don't just step into a starting roll in year one. We've been over that too many time already year in and year out.
If you want to follow a road map to the Super Bowl let's look at NY. They have a decent Oline that are actually better pass blockers than run blockers. Just about the polar opposite of the Bears. Our QB's are probably equal but Eli gets time to setup and throw. He isn't always running for his life every down. Contrary to popular belief they don't have a gaggle of top WR. The only guys who's clearly superior to anyone we have is Nicks and even he wouldn't be a #1 guy on some other team the Packers as an example. They do have the advantage of having worked together more in a system that suits their respective talents. In the Super Bowl that offense only scored 19 points against the worst defense in the NFL. So it's not their offense that over powers anyone but behind a great defense it's good enough to win with.
On the other hand the Giants defense held the two best offenses in the NFL to 20 points or less on their way to winning the Super Bowl. That's defensive domination and they did it with a pass rush that created constant pressure on two of the best, if not THE two best QB's in the game. That pass rush came primarily from their DE's and because they have superb depth at DE they were able to rotate and stay strong the entire game. Defense still wins championships.
We do need a #1 WR and I'm counting on the fact that we'll get one in FA and we can live with another farther down in the draft than our first pick. If we need two more of something right now it's great pass rushers and you usually don't find those guys very far down the list come draft day. If we can get a great pass rusher with that first pick we need him a whole lot more than a rookie WR who may not contribute much for another year or two.
That's my take on it. The Chicago Bears have always won with a great running game, an average passing game, and a dominant defense. That's what got us our last SB win and it's what's most likely to get us our next. (if ever)

Well Soul, if they don't beat out Bennett at 2, then they beat out knox and hester at 3...both of them on the bench is better then them on the field.
I agree, you build a winning team from the Center out, get your lines right and your whole team will win more. But you still need to upgrade the Bears WR talent, b/c it is poor. And the only talent outside of Bennett WAS Knox; how is in a backbrace to this point, and was still a major downgrade from Bennett. He ran sloppy routes, he slipped way to often, and both of those issues created turn overs. He's a boarderline starter at best, and probably a better backup...once healthy.

With needs at DE, CB, OLine and WR.. I dont see emery going out and putting all his eggs in one (VJax) basket his first year on the job. KC will play a big role in our beloved's off-season I believe... their GM has to make a tough choice of either franchise tagging and/or signing Double-Wayne-Bowe and Brandon Carr. Whichever doesn't get the potential tag, I think Emery should make the call to get the other.

Since...

...requires a #1 pick to get the "middle guy", how about...
Colston or Jax or Bowe (#1 FA vet)
Toon or McNutt or Brian Quick or Juron Criner (#2-3 prospect)
Bennett/Knox (#2-3 vet)
Hester/Sanz or ~ 5th pick (slot/utility)
...which requires a 2nd to 3rd round pick instead? Saves the 1st for a shot at Adams or Mercilus or even Zach Brown (if Briggs gets traded which I think is unlikely)

WR Vincent Jackson [Chargers] 4 years 38 million/20 guaranteed [7/10/10/11]
WR Eddie Royal [Broncos] 4 years 12 million/6 guaranteed [2/2/3/5]
6. WR T.J Graham [NC State] 6’ 190lbs.
That adds 3 WRs, 2 front line starters and a developmental kick returner to the mix.
1. Vincent Jackson
2. Eddie Royal
3. Earl Bennett
4. Knox
5. Graham
6. Hester

I'm down w/not using the #1 on a WR, ecspecially if we grab that #1 in FA. But I'm a firm believer in BPA. If that is a OT, DE, WR, DB, RB,LB all the way down. I was more using Floyd/Jefferies b/c those are the ones being talked about. But if we could get Toon or McNutt or someone else who is projected to be able to play day 1, more power to it. Anything that has Knox/Hester as the backup roll is what I'm going after. 1 Knox is not going to be ready to play 100% day 1; and even if he is, he's never shown the ability to be a starter. Let him ride the bench w/Hester and keep them fresh for ST duty.

To you yes and I'll grant you that's your opinion. But it's not necessarily mine. If he's healthy I'd be willing to bet Knox would be competitive with any rookie you draft.

V Jax gets similar money at 9.5 million a season and he is 29 when he is signing this contract, Marshall was 26 when he signed his.
Royal has had some injury concerns, but none have been that serious like Knox, and he is in a similar boat to Earl Bennet.
Most 3rd round WRs do not contribute much on the field for a couple of seasons.
The Bears need 2 starters at WR this offseason.
