I'm really looking forward to FA this year, even more than usual. I think bringing Emery in with this amount of cap space almost obligates ownership to give him the authority to spend it. Plus, it's always a good thing to see our Division rivals in a worse spot than ourselves.

We can also roll forward 8 million cap space that we did not use this season. Emery reference the roll forward in his press conference and it has appeared on a number of sites.

Thanks for the updates JJ and Windy. Pretty much on target with what we've been expecting. Compared to others, especially our NFCN rivals, we're in good shape with around $25 mil cap excess now and I'm certain that some cuts will gain us several million more.
We're in a good spot to spend some money on keeping our own as well as attracting others. There are some positions that are even stronger this year than last. It looks like the only one which may be worse if the Olineman but with so many teams needing to pare back to get under the cap there may be guys who'll be released we haven't even anticipated yet.
I think two other factors play in our favor as well. If quite a few teams are tight to the cap what they can afford to offer may decline from deals that were handed out last year when the free agent frenzy began in July. Players may be getting offers significantly less than their 2011 counterparts received. This is also the second year rookie compensation will fall under the new CBA rules which means it will take far less of a reserve to sign draftees than it has in the past.
Cap excess + Phil Emery = something I really like this year.

I'm getting to that age where a lifetime warranty just doesn't mean as much to me anymore as an afternoon nap.

Me too 4Da. The more needs we can get in FA, the more BPA we can draft come April. I have no idea what our FA plan is but I do expect us to be pretty active. Man, I love the offseason & March 13th can't get here soon enough!
