Are any of the WR retreads worth a look?
I've kind of gone back and forth with myself on whether I'd be okay with the Bears taking a chance on some older receivers, whether currently active or not. It obviously kind of depends on the specific player, but I was wondering on some of your guys' thoughts. I'm thinking guys like:
1. Reggie Wayne (33): getting old and had a down year, but who was throwing to him?
2. Braylon Edwards (28): not old, but often gets a case of the dropsies
3. Randy Moss (34): retired last year and obviously not what he used to be, but anything left?
4. Terrell Owens (38): yes I went there; always in tip top shape; sounds like he's desperate for cash; would come cheap; if he acts up you cut him
Of this list, I would most like to see Wayne since I think he's still capable of producing at a relatively high level. With his age and his down year would we be able to get him for a decent price? I think I would also be willing to give TO a shot on a 1 year vet minimum contract. Ideally, I'd prefer to get a true #1 (namely VJax or Bowe), but since it's possible these guys won't make it to FA I was thinking about some retreads. Are there other "oldie but a goodie" possibilities out there?

I'd take Wayne, Welker, VJax and Malcolm Floyd. BAM!

PB I think if we're gonna draft a guy a bit later in the draft with a huge upside that needs to be developed over the next couple of years (assuming Drake can actually do that) then signing a guy like Reggie Wayne would make a lot of sense. At his age he isn't likely to command VJax kind or money and out of that list he's the guy I'd go for.
If he did have a down year then I'll take any guy who can put up 960 yards and 75 catches in that offense. His ability to get open and catch coupled with Cutler's arm can extend his career at least another two years IMO. If Manning is leaving (and that's an almost certainty) and the Colts are looking to rebuild around Luck then Wayne is very expendable at his age. But the very thing that makes him less valuable to the Colts makes him more valuable to us IMHO. His experience will help guys like Knox, Bennett and Sanz in their development along with a rookie draft pick.
He may not be a high grade #1 guy any more but he's still better at the top end that anything we've got now. His last deal made him pretty financially secure and averaged about $6.5 mil per year. If we can bring him in for around half that it will be $$$ far better spent than what we handed out to RWill and Meriweather for all we got out of $5 mil plus we spent on those two.
Here's Wayne's career stats.

I'm getting to that age where a lifetime warranty just doesn't mean as much to me anymore as an afternoon nap.

That doesn't seem feasible. I kind of wish the Bears had picked up TO earlier in the season. We needed a wide out, and he's still one of the greatest of all time. Heck, if Jerry Rice came out of retirement and was still pretty fit I'd think of giving him a chance since we were so desperate (especially when Bennett was out).

TO is broke so we could have got him cheap and now even cheaper.

If there was ever a time that he would behave himself and do what he was told, it would be now.

T.O. is also still hurt and most likely couldn't even pass and NFL physical. Some guys need to just quietly fade into the sunset and he's one of them.
