I would sign Reggie Wayne if we got one of the big boys on the market as well. I'm crazy that way, so go figure. Wayne, besides being old, is only 6'0". We need a receiver who is much, much taller than him..

Trust me on this Sanz next stop should be in the CFL.
What does he offer that cannot be replaced by 100 other guys?
I don't see why not. He doesn't drop "a ton of passes". He was a Rookie last year and they take some time. Sanz will be fine and should get another shot

Eh, I think he was a UDFA that showed signs that he might be a decent WR, then faded. He might be able to be replaced, but why replace him w/1 of 100 other guys when all those other guys are just as interchangable as he is. I'm not saying I want him in the starting lineup, but I would like to see if he is able to develop.
Soul, I know they are different WR's, my line of thinking was more if Knox gets hurt we need a 5th wr. Why not see if Sanz continues to develop. He had a nice start only to fizzle...but many rookie wr's struggle their first year or so. So why not see if he improves?

What does Sanz bring to the table?
Why would we not replace him with someone with more potential?
Give me a 5th/6th round pick with size that we can develop and that has a greater chance of being an impact player in the NFL.
Who would you rather have B.J Cunningham [Michigan St] or Sanz?

I disagree that we should automatically replace Sanz, but only because I doubt we go deep enough in overhauling our WRs that we don't need him. I will say, however, I'd keep him above Hester and Knox for various reasons (to start out in TC) if we get at least 2 decent receivers.

Go look at the scouting reports for the kid prior to the draft. One of the things he has been hammered for in his rookie year was his drops, but one of his biggest attributes at Ohio State was his great hands. He hardly ever dropped a pass in college if it was put close to him. While he doesn't have great speed, it is adequate and just as fast as a large percentage of the receivers in this league. He runs precise routes and has a knack for finding the seems and getting open. This kid should have been drafted as early as the 5th round, but fortunately, he was an UDFA and we grabbed him. If we placed him on the practice squad, I would wager that he would be gobbled up rather quickly. I don't think it's fair to judge this kid based on a rookie season where he didn't even have the opportunity for Rookie camps and OTA's. He didn't even know where he would be playing until the lock-out was complete and he was signed, so he didn't even have a chance to work with his teams veterens in voluntary workouts. He had no "un-official" playbook to study to even get the slightest head start, yet people want to be critical of a few drops when his head was probably swimming when he actually found himself on the field. Frankly, given everything he had against him, I thought he showed a helluva lot. Most guys in that same position wouldn't even be activated, much less have enough of a grip on the offense (especially the Martz offense) to see the field beyond Special Teams.
No, we do not want to get rid of this kid for a late round flyer when he has actually shown some ability in his rookie season and now has some experience to build on. I am not suggesting that he will ever be anything "special", but he could be a VERY nice attribute in our WR corp, and he may just surprise some people with how far he does progress.

I would have no problem with, and would actually welcome an older accomplished player like Moss or Wayne as long as we did not only bring in older players. We need some young players that will be Chicago Bears from the beginning and are real #1 WRs. If we do that, then complementing with someone like Wayne or Moss (assuming he can still do it) would be a great solution. But we would also have to replace him in a few years. Still, it would give us a year or two to chase down a second young explosive WR. They are not easy to get and to get two immediately without having to rely on an older player as a temporary fix would be difficult.

I think Sanz deserves a chance to develop. He certainly runs better routes than Knox and at times Hester. A rook coming in from nowhere to learn the craptard complex system of Martz. I just think he hit the rookie wall. With Bates now on board he might become a nice supplemental wr. Consider how long it takes the normal wr to develop. Hell, I remember Bennett getting "redshirted" when he was drafted and some guys on here talking about cutting him.

Like Martz said (man I hate to quote him but some times he's right) height is way over hyped as a desirable feature. Separation, precise routes and hands are the most important things. A 6' guy with long arms doesn't give all that much to a 6'3" guy with shorter arms.
There are some damn good 6' WR's out there. Earl Bennett and Greg Jennings are two that come to mind. Reggie Wayne knows how to get open and catch and that's what Cutler needs this year.
I'm getting to that age where a lifetime warranty just doesn't mean as much to me anymore as an afternoon nap.

I'd agree with that Soul. But like fighters all things equal strength wins out and with wr's all things equal size does matter. Just need to find big wr's with good skills to make that height matter.
