Lance Briggs is worth far more than a 3rd round pick to us and I'd never let him go for that. If Emery even gives him a green light to go shopping for a new team I'd put no less than a high second or low first price tag on it. We'd need that to replace him and even then chances of getting a player of the same caliber is unlikely. To me it makes more sense to add another year to his deal and hand him a couple of mil in bonus money now just to keep the peace.

Spaeth should be on the bubble in camp. If Andre Smith can beat him out we'll save about $1.3 mil and I would do that in a NY minute just to get some breathing space for potential injury replacement dollars. Spaeth is a good blocker but $1.7 mil is too much for a one dimensional TE who isn't of all that much use in Tice's offense.
    1. Agree with everyone Briggs is worth more to us on the field than the mid-round pick we would get for him. I cannot see anyone going higher than a 3rd for a 31 year old LB making 4 million a season.

    2. Spaeth should be on the bubble because blocking TEs are a dime a dozen. We might as well bring in a back up OL men for what he does.

I think that we could potentially have two first round picks by trading Briggs and the second round pick. That would get us up to easily the point where we could take Coples. If we took him and got Adams, too, in first round, that would be the coups d'tat of the decade.

I asked that and was shot down on whether Briggs + our 2nd could get us another first. Even if it did, we would need a late-1 or (at best) an early-2 to draft Zach Brown to replace Briggs. I've worked these scenarios in my head and it doesn't add anything unless the 1st you get is high enough to permit trade-down value. Don't see that as very plausible.

Dags, we NEED an OT and we NEED a good 4-3 OLB more than we need Couples + one of those 2 IMO.
