Sometimes, I think the sports radio people here on "The Sports Animal" here in Knoxville are horrible. All they want to talk about is UT football. They totally ignore all other sports. Occasionally you'll hear about the Lady Vols basketball team or the men's basketball team, and rarely do you hear about the Titans. They're just bad, and that's all I have to say about that.

I agree that Hub is a moron and Boers and Bernstein are completely worthless. I rarely listen to sports talk, but Bowen always sounded really "in the know" to me. I was surprised to read from him that WRs take a year or more to develop. I had always thought WR and RB were the two positions in which players could easily slide in and have impacts as rookies.

I like the title of this article... So Bowen is going to wait to form an opinion on Emery? But Emery has already been here for almost a whole entire month now. Wow, I'm amazed by Bowen's incredible display of patience.

Just for the record, Hub Arkush is the Editor in Chief and Publisher of Pro Football Weekly; I don't think he has anything to do with The Bears Report. He is a frequent guest commentator on a number of shows, but he also has a weekly TV and Radio broadcast during the season for his magazine that is syndicated all across the country. His co-Hosts are Tom Waddle and Dan Hampton, whom he has known for years as he was the Color Commentator for the Chicago Bears Radio Network for almost 20 years, ending in 2004 and replaced by Jeff Joniak. I believe the reason he is not well liked at Halas Hall is because he got sick of trying to sugar coat many of the Bears deficiencies at the end of the Dick Jauron era and said a few things about the McCaskey family and their apathy that he shouldn't have.
Just for the record, I really enjoy Pro Football Weekly, and while Arkush may not have the connections that he once had, I think he is more aware than many might think. No, I am not related or have any relationship with him whatsoever.
The guy has been around the league, and especially the Bears for a long time.
I love Matt Bowen as he also brings a very nice perspective. Has anyone else heard him on the Score and think he sounds like Doug "Uncle Fuzzy" Buffone? The first time I heard him, I swore it was Buffone until the comments he was making began to be much more intellegent than Doug's would.
I agree about B & B. My god, Bernstein can be so damned condescending at times. He is a regular jag.

Soul, what about that DE out of Virginia, Cam Johnson? Do you think he would be adequate in our system? He did really well at the Senior Bowl from everything I've read.
All I know is what I read in his scouting report. To me it sounded like Cam Johnson = Alex Brown. A good ball player but nothing spectacular as a pass rusher. The one that has me intrigued is the kid from Nebraska, Jared Crick. He's big guy with a big motor. Not necessarily a speed rusher but more of a LDE type who can play the run well and bull rush. Think Justin Tuck.

RB's moreso than WR's. One of the main reasons is the speed the NFL game moves at. These guys need to be much sharper and quicker out of their breaks than they do in college. NFL QB's throw to a spot and the WR better be there. In college the receiver is often open by a wide margin and timing isn't so critical. They face much tougher coverage and they can be manhandled at the line in press coverage unlike what they experience in college where they get a free release. That's why strength and quickness count for a lot.

My bad. Had the right info just the wrong publication. Thanks for the correction.
I've heard similar stories about him being a Jauron supporter and thinking he got the short end of the stick in Chicago. I'm not surprised he ruffled some feathers. He doesn't pussy foot around an issue but there are so many times when he's off base when he thinks he isn't that he comes across as being very arrogant. That's my take on Hub though.
