NFL.com analyst thinks Bears can contend for title

They can but there are a couple of big holes to fill first.
1) Gotta have a vet WR who can step into the #1 spot now. A draft choice is great but he won't help that much in 2012. Despite that if we don't pick up a young WR (s) in FA we'll need on before the 4th round.
2) Gotta improve the pass rush. Izzy and Pep are playing close to 85% of the snaps and I can see them getting worn out by seasons end. The playoffs will only add more stress. A vet DE and another in the draft is a must as far as I can see. Izzy plays the run well and get some pressure at times but he's not a 10 sack a year guy and Chauncey Davis is even worse. Mario Williams would be a real catch but Robert Mathis or someone like that is more likely I think.
3) Someone needs to push J'Marcus Webb up or out of that LT spot. It's possible we get that help in the draft. If Mike Adams is the guy then we take him if BPA and we have our bookend OT's for the next decade. I can't say that would be a bad move if we can solve the WR and DE spots in FA.
4) A CB and a SS in that order. Jennings isn't bad but his hands are like bricks. We should be looking at a vet to replace him and a rookie to provide depth and as an eventual replacement for Peanut. Mark Barron has fallen back a few spots in the rankings if there are no DE's or LT's left when the Bear pick but Barron is still on the board it would be interesting to see if the Bears go that way.
I'm getting to that age where a lifetime warranty just doesn't mean as much to me anymore as an afternoon nap.

Yep, lot of wholes to plug, but we have the cap, and the early draft to fill them. If they do that we can contend.

My only disagreement is that Jennings isn't bad. I just don't like his play at all.

It's weird to have press saying good things about the Bears. Can't get them to pick the Bears even when playing sh-- I mean crappy teams.

Wel, we made it to the NFCC game 2 years ago, and last year we were on a hotstreak before Cutler's injuries. So i guess that stupid mantra of "we're close" was true after all.

Even with filling some or all of the team's needs we still will only go as far as Cutty can take us!

I could live with Jennings if we got no help elsewhere. He's a tough little SOB and he plays the zone reasonably well his problem his holding onto the ball when he has sure pick. There were so many drives he could have ended and maybe a couple of scores if he could just catch the dam ball. He's kind of the antithesis of DJ Moore.
Trouble is Jennings is a FA and I know we won't get into a bidding war for him. Just like with Manning last year I think they'll make him an offer and if he gets it bettered he's probably gone. Bowman is a FA too and I really don't want to re-sign him so picking up some vet CB help is pretty important.

Yeah, and he'll actually look even better if we get a more consistent pass rush going, which should be the number one priority on defense.
