Devil's Advocate
Jay Cutler gets injured and the Bears go 6-10-Lovie Smith is fired.
Jay Cutler struggles with mediocre WR talent and the Bears go 9-7-Lovie Keeps his job.
The free agent WR class is awesome and we should be able to get a #1 or at least a couple of #2 guys.
The free agent OT class is garbage and will not be able to upgrade.
Mike Adams and Robert Meachem
is a better option than
Khalif Barnes and Michael Floyd

Let's face it, guys....if Cutler goes down (again) for any length of time beyond say a few games, we aren't likely to reach the SB.
No matter who our WRs are and no matter our backup QB is. Just being realistic.

That remains to be seen. One nice thing about his prospects, whether it be us passing or bidding on him, is that Emery would have been privy to all of the hoopla that led to his lack of PT and getting cut in KC.

I would take Martin or Adams if available at 19. I think Carimi could be a decent LT or a great RT so I would leave him at RT. JMHO

I would like to see Carimi get a shot, but in the end I doubt that he will because it would create a weakness at RT.
There is some talk that Jonathan Martin from Stanford will make it into the teens and could be a target for the Bears if we are not high on Mike Adams.
Most mocks are projecting the Bears to take Adams if they project us taking a LT at all. I can't remember which service it was - might have been PFT - but the last I saw, they had us taking Adams with the 19th pick overall.

Would you guys think about trading 1[19] and 2[50] to Buffalo for 1[10] so we can draft Jonathan Martin and get a franchise LT?
Or
Would you trade 1[19] and 3[74] to the Cardinals for 1[13] and draft Jonathan Martin to be the franchise LT?

That would suit me just fine, Windy. Just fine

I think if we are serious about fixing the LT problem it will require us to look at and target Mike Adams and Jonathan Martin.
Martin is out as far as I'm concerned. He's far too much of a finesse OT to please Tice. Adams is always a possibility depending on who else is on the board but I think if there are other choices this is not the way we go. I will call you out on your contention that the Bears had poor run blocking though. As a team we averaged 4.6 ypc and our RB's put up just shy of 1750 yards. That's not too bad in my book. Pass blocking was a problem but not run blocking. Not when your top rusher averaged almost 5.0 ypc.
I just keep coming back to the same conclusion. I think Mike Tice speaks pretty plainly and confidently when he continues to back Webb and says he plans to start the season with the same unit in place that he did last year. IF there is a top player at another position of need still on the board at #19 I don't think we'll take an OT and I also don't believe with the depth in certain positions that Emery will trade up for anyone who won't make an immediate impact.
In addition with Lovie under the microscope he'll be looking for the same. Developmental guy will have to come in later rounds. He's gonna want starters at least from rounds one and two. So just like last years when the need was at OT and DT look for them to do the same this year. I'm guessing (and not in any particular order) DE, WR, CB are at the top of the list and they'll try to get talent at those three spots with their top three choices.
CB's and DE's can usually step right in. Not so much with WR's or LT's. There are a couple of Olineman who should be on the board when we pick but if Tice isn't convinced any of them will be any better than Webb would be then we don't take one that early but we do take one in the middle rounds. I think the second round will be jammed with WR's and CB's so whoever we like when our pick comes up (#18 in the second) we go that way and fill two other spots in the 3rd. (Probably one will be a Safety.....it's a Bears tradition, LOL)
I'm not saying this is the way it should go but, in response to Windy's question, rather the way I think it will go.

Trading up would be ballsy but idk if thats in our best interest cause we arent trading up to get Kalil but Reiff would be a possibility. IDK if he is worth a trade up like that though. Probably band aid route as much as I hate saying it. JA fucked this offense up so bad we really dont have a choice
Yes and where he really fucked up was in not getting any Olineman last summer besides Spencer and that was only done after we let Olin go. Messing up the acquisitions of Bushrod and Colon was major. We badly needed OT help and he failed to get it and then offered up nothing but excuses for it.
Now the problem is this years OT crop is very thin in FA and only two or at most three OT's in the draft have any chance of fitting our needs and at least two and maybe all three will be gone before we draft. It's fixable and somehow Emery and Tice will just have to come up with a plan that at the very least gives us better backup than OMG and somone to at least push Webb so he's not just handed the job again.

Nooooooo, because Jonathan Martin is not even the type of OT Tice likes to have. Tice likes big and strong and Martin is small and a finesse type LT. He's not a fit and as it stands he's ranked lower (in the 20's) than the #19 pick. We shouldn't even have to trade up.
