My vote would be Stevie Johnson as long as Drake can help him develop his hands a bit better
The Bills say they won't franchise him so who knows. I think we should forget about VJax. If he's looking for a $50mil/5yr deal I don't think he finds it in Chicago unless a ton of it is backended to years 4 and 5. NO has a problem facing them that may prevent them from franchising Colston. If Brees doesn't agree to a new deal they'll have no choice but to use the tag on him. That could possibly leave both Meachem and Colston free to pursue offers.
This is the way I would go about it if I was pulling the trigger. I'd get on the horn with Eddie Royal's agent and let him know we'd like to discuss his coming to Chicago to reunite with Cutler. He should be up for than because his career needs a boost right now after the QB debacle here in Denver and I think he's as much a part of solving our WR problems as anyone else we sign. Royal won't be a big dollar guy either.
Then I begin to look at who the top guys are in FA and set two targets out of that group to go after first "A" and and then "B". We don't need a $10 mil a year guy with top end speed but we do need a guy who can open and can catch. That's one reason why I favor Reggie Wayne because that's his strong point and he should be less costly than some of the others. Meachem and Johnson may be younger guys who could also be in the mix.
I think the important thing is the need to get Cutler who he'd like as a target and to upgrade the current group.

Cutler's a good teammate, and I think that is why he didn't mention the O-line. The entire O-line will be coming back next season (or is under contract at this point, I believe). Other than Knox who might never play again, the only two receivers the Bears have under contract are Hester and Sans. He isn't throwing anyone under the bus in saying the Bears need to get someone good to fill the three vacant receiver spots, but he kinda would be doing that saying "Webb blows and we need a new LT."

Since Cutler will be able to do things this year that he hasn't been able to do much or any of since he's been here, like rolling out on a regular basis, calling audibles, 3-step drops consistantly, etc., I don't think he's quite as worried about the o-line as he is about receiver. He's been throwing to midgets with the exception of RWill who can't hang on to the ball. I wouldn't be surprised at all if he truly wanted a tall, tough, sure-handed receiver over an OL.
Also, Earl Bennett was extended this last season so he's here for sure, also.

Bennett is also under contract and should be playing Flanker instead of the slot and if we couldn't find a better slot guy (that what I want Royal for) we could get by with Sanz and Hester sharing time there. Our biggest need is a taller WR to play who can get open consistently and catch and Knox can backup that position when he's 100% again. I notice Cutler made no reference at all to RWill. We only need desperately to fill one spot and that's at WR. An upgrade like Royal to play slot and be a KOR would a be nice upgrade but we could live with who we have if it came right down to it. Sign at least one FA and draft a WR to develop and we'd be okay.
I believe that if he thought protection would still be a major issue he would have found a diplomatic way to address it publicly. It's not like where the problem resides isn't obvious to all. I think Tice has convinced him that the problem will take care of itself with another full off season to work on cohesiveness and pass blocking technique. That and the fact that Tice won't be calling many 7 step drops and is willing to put a TE out there to chip means to me that he's gonna give Webb one more chance to capture that spot.
What concerns me more is the comment Lovie made regarding their satisfaction with OMG an his ability to play multiple positions. I don't know what that's all about since he's failed miserably everywhere he's played. We need to replace him some way some how.

Ahh, I forget about Bennett, as he wasn't listed in the receiver summary you posted above. The point still stands, though. There are at least two openings for receivers on the Bears, so he isn't throwing any current teammates under the bus.
I think you are correct about Jay feeling the line will be better based on player growth and new schemes. Also, as I mentioned previously, a good number of his sacks early last season came because he had to hold onto the ball forever because nobody was getting open. He had to fight the natural urge to throw the ball away because if he did so, he would have been throwing it away on half of his dropbacks. Just having guys who can get open and catch the ball will decrease the number of hits he takes.

I'm 6'4" and played two years of flag football as a TE/WR before moving to OT during my tackle football daze (yeah I had a concussion or two). Put me in Lovie!

Let's all go to camp. I'm not tall enough for WR but 6' is tall enough for SS. LOL

Anyhoo, the pick i want is Floyd.
The pick we may need is OL.
I hope FA and the second round take care of the OL.
