Bears part ways with DT Anthony Adams
The Chicago Bears made the decision that Anthony Adams didn’t fit their plans moving forward and informed him Sunday he will be released with one year remaining on his contract.
The move will help Adams, 31, in his bid to land a new job as he is on the open market now 2 1/2 weeks before free agency begins. His agent Joel Segal confirmed to the Tribune that Adams has been cut loose.
Adams was signed to a two-year, $4.5 million contract last summer after the lockout ended. He was set to earn $1.9 million this coming season, and the move frees up $1.15 million in cap space for the team.
Originally signed by the Bears in 2007, Adams was a solid performer at defensive tackle and probably had his best seasons in 2009 and 2010, not long after coaches finally determined he was a better fit for the defense than former draft pick Dusty Dvoracek.
Adams was credited with only 17 tackles this past season with two stops for a loss and eight quarterbacl pressures. He played in 11 games and made only four starts. Adams had only 280 snaps as Matt Toeaina, Amobi Okoye, Henry Melton and rookie Stephen Paea all got more action.
The Bears have depth at defensive tackle with another young player to develop in Jordan Miller, who spent the majority of last season on the practice squad.

Hopefully this means we are close to terms with Okoye. He and Melton have the makings of our best DT tandom in years.

Yep, not a surprise about AA at all. His performance was down last year and after drafting Paea and picking up Okoye he's not gonna be needed. Paea should get more playing time this year and Toeaina outplayed AA. And yeah, I like Melton and Okoye at DT on the passing downs. Between them they put up 11 sacks and Paea added two more. I can't remember the last time our DT's put up double digit sacks in one year.
We do need to sign Okoye to a longer term deal and we should also cut a little more deadweight over the next couple of weeks too.
I'm getting to that age where a lifetime warranty just doesn't mean as much to me anymore as an afternoon nap.

Why do you feel this way? Steltz is no star but he's a proven good ST player and has shown he can backup S in a pinch. It's not like we are deep in the secondary right now and have 4 FAs there. Steltz and Graham seem like the keepers among the 4 IMO.
I have no problem letting AA go. We are much deeper at DT/NT and I hope freeing up more cap space means we are going to fill some key holes in FA starting next month.

This was coming but where is the article cutting OMIYALE! Soon I hope. Steltz is solid, need him for ST and backup esp. if we don't sign Graham.

Adams was not bringing a lot to the table with Toenia and Paea both being solid against the run.
This is the Bears moving money from Adams to Okoye, which I am fine with because he brings more as a pass rusher and run stoppers are a dime a dozen.

Steltz really is dead weight as a backup in this system. He's slow and not too better of a tackler than archuletta was. I think we STILL need to add some kind of talent to safety that isn't there now.

THAT won't happen until the team signs someone they feel is better.
