Bears Free Agent Targets and Rumors
The Carroll County Times' Aaron Wilson is "hearing" the Bears will be a potential landing spot for free agent LG Ben Grubbs if he is not re-signed by the Ravens.
Grubbs has been expected to reach the open market, but coach John Harbaugh insisted in a radio interview last week that the Ravens were going to "really make a run" at re-signing him. The Bears ended 2011 with former undrafted free agent Edwin Williams at left guard.

I would love this move Grubbs is physical and stout and he also is athletic enough to move around.
I do not want to read too much into this, but perhaps Chris Williams is not coming back from the injury.

That was my EXACT thought. Many of us have been suggesting it, and to me, it makes the most sense, but it's so hard to see through all the smoke this time of year.

Eh, one's as likely as the other. Dude's always injured, but if he were expected to be there for a full 16, you know Tice would've looked at him by now...

Yeah, but Cwill was very nice at LG. I still keep thinking the best thing would be just flip the tackles back (providing Carimi is healthy) and Tice saves face and Webb can at least be moderate with less worries over at RT. Hell, I'd go for Louis at LT even though I'd like to see what having a better offense w/o Martz is like with two athletic pulling OG's.

I can't believe everybody and his grandmother has CWill being replaced or moving to LT. The guy did great last year until he got hurt. They've been moving him around since he got here and last year he added a little weight and settled in at LG and now we're supposed to replace him?
Tice wants to play his five best and CWill is one of them so do we move him back to LT again?
I'm getting to that age where a lifetime warranty just doesn't mean as much to me anymore as an afternoon nap.

The only argument that I have for signing a guy like Ben Grubbs is that if you want to throw the ball deep a lot then you need to be more than adequate at the OG/C position.
If you are committed to throwing deep routes Cutler needs to step up and be safe.

Ben Grubbs and Marcus McNeil . . . two AU guys added to DaBears in one offseason would make me cream my shorts very happy. That is all.
