Kronik's mock
So, the man known as kronik, and occasionally sox, has decided to grace you guys with his first real mock in a damn long time and first and only of this year's draft. No FA, no bells and whistles, just picks. I realized about halfway through these are mostly guys I wanted in certain slots before most postseason play began and I am still apparently feeling them after workouts. For the heck of it, I put in some of my quotes here about them earlier.
1)Nick Perry, DE USC - This is very much a, "hope he's there," pick. "One thing to keep an eye on. Nick Perry supposedly up to 270 while keeping his freakish speed. Could be a game-changer for our pick, because I like the kids play with his hand in the dirt more than anyone but Coples, but his playing weight was worrisome."
2)Marvin McNutt, WR Iowa - I see a lot of people pushing him in the third round and beyond, I just don't see his talent and tools lasting past the second. What I said last year, "There's a handful of incredibly talented BIG receivers primed to go in the first round, and I think it would be a shame for us to not walk away with one. However, the other side of that is the spillover of the other top talent into the second round and even third (McNutt) may provide us with the luxury of picking from a thinner position in the first."
3-1)Brandon Mosley OT Auburn - What I said about a month ago on him, "Mosley is quickly becoming my favorite low-key OL along with Massie. Both those guys have some ridiculous feet and unlike most, I like both their chances at LT. I think at worst with those guys, you have two very big upside guards at the cost of a 2 or 3." All of what I saw was reaffirmed this weekend and what I said in the beginning of January on him, "Mosley has the athleticism for LT, but I don't know about his head," is no longer a big concern for me.
3-2)Josh Robinson, CB UCF - A guy I was incredibly high on going into the season and think he fell victim to unrealistically high expectations for a zone CB. His Combine has him back up near the top of my CB board and we would be lucky to have him fall here.
4)Devon Wylie, WR Fresno - What I said in January, "Love me some Devon Wylie. He's got a lot of shift and burn in him. Not just a squirmy, quick-twitch athlete, but also some breakaway speed and underrated toughness." Still love the kid and sadly think he will be off the board much earlier than this pick, but as of now it seems this is his stock.
5)Tank Carder, LB TCU - Underrated beast of a prospect who I think fits perfectly at SLB in our system.
6)Max Gruder, LB PITT - Productive leader, and I think our LB depth is just that thin.
7)Brandon Bolden, HB Ole Miss - Great receiver out of the backfield with deceptive burst.

I like the draft,
-We would definately need to address WR in free agency
What do we think of instead of 55 million on Vincent Jackson we spread it across a couple of veteran players.
WR Pierre Garcon [5 years 30 million/16 guaranteed]

WR Robert Meachem [5 years 25 million/13 guaranteed]

2. Brandon Mosley is an interesting prospect and maybe capabale of starting at RT and allowing Carimi to compete with Webb at LT.
3. Even if Perry is not there I think that Mercilus is a very similat player and would be a good value as well.
Why do you think that Perry/Mercilus are still rather low in most rankings Kiper/McShay do not have them in their top 25-32?

garcon rejected a 25 mil deal he is looking for the rice contract of 42 mil

I don't know the players well enough to go past the 3rd round but the first two rounds are killer. Perry would be a nice pick at #19 although unnecessary if somehow we manage to sign MWill. That's a very big if though.
WR is the right pick in the 2nd. No matter what we do in FA we still need a young coming up the pike. McNutt and a couple more fit into this slot well. If not a WR then CB would also be a good pick here.
Mosley fits the description of a Mike Tice lineman. Tough competitor with a little nasty to him. He's been a RT so converting him to LT is probably a 50-50 proposition but if he's got the ability to move inside then he's useful even if we can't use him at LT. That would have to be what we're drafting him for unless Tice relents and moves Carimi over.
Don't like the CB as much as I other guys I see who are taller. Unless he's got one hell of a spring in his feet we end up with some of the same problems we do with Jennings or others that are sub 6' guys. They're a liability against the taller WR teams have today. Guys who are 5'10" don't matchup with guy who are 5" to 6" taller.

Grimes, Hall, Finnegan, Joseph, Flowers, Samuel, Winfield, I could go on, but these are all guys within an inch of his height (some more some less)who have handled WRs of all sizes with great success. The magic two inches you get from him to a guy like Revis is not the difference you would think. In fact, taller CBs have more challenges in regular coverage because they often give up the COD explosion skills with that height. He's two inches taller than Jennings and his physicality and hops combined with his top notch quickness and speed more than make up for any perceived lack of size. He is a guy who stays low regardless of where you push him on the field and explodes when it's time to break, and I like those types CBs chances in this league.

Thanks for the breakdown. I guess I just feel more comfortable with the Peanut size guys but this kid packs a fair amount weight into his height. If he can annoy receivers, play press coverage from time to time and tackle like a mad man then he fits. I shouldn't be that hung up on size Donnell Woolford was one of the best CB's we ever had and he was this kids size. To me it's all about handling these bigger receivers we see today. If he can it makes less difference how big he is.

What really sucks is the 2 guys I really want Perry and Floyd, probably worked their way into the top 15.
I would be shocked if NYJ ans SD passed on both those guys.

VJax they may have the hots for Floyd which is fine with me because I don't. The Jets are more likely to take one of those stud DT's or a guy like Cox who's a perfect size DE in a 3-4. Those big boys have moved up and good DT's don't hang around long.
The thing about Perry is that he's one of those "tweeners" just like Ingram and Upshaw so teams are trying to figure out where he'll fit best. Sometimes that will drop a guy farther than expected. I believe that's what may have happened with Carimi last year.

If we got Meachem and Garcon, sign me up. But only if we got both of 'em...
