As for Adams being released I think it shows lovie believes our future at nt will be toe and paea so really we don't need him anymore. Also we must really be resigning okoye
And I wish they'd hurry up and get it done. #1 I like the way he plays and #2 he may be part of the attraction if we can get MWill to give us a tumble. No doubt we're better off with Toe and Paea. What I like about both of them is they're tough high motor guys who aren't that big but they can wear guys down. I especially like that burst Paea has. Wouldn't be a trip to have a NT who can rush for a change.

well...this was a gloriously happy thread until you had to go and pull a db54 mention.

FWIW these are the reported cap savings as a result of the releases of AA and OMG.
The math on Adams, Omiyale releases

By releasing veterans Anthony Adams and Frank Omiyale on Thursday the Bears freed up additional salary-cap space that pushes the team closer to $30 million in room.
By cutting the two players the Bears created $3.15 million in savings for 2012.
Here is how the math breaks down:
Anthony Adams
2012 salary-cap figure $2.75 million
2012 base salary $1.9 million
2012 roster bonus $100,000
Pro-rated signing bonus vs. salary cap $750,000 Net savings: $1.25 million
Frank Omiyale
2012 salary-cap figure $2.8 million
2012 base salary $2.1 million
2012 roster bonus $250,000
Pro-rated signing bonus vs. salary cap $450,000 Net savings: $1.9 million
(I have some totally different numbers for OMG but since the net effect on the cap is roughly the same we'll just go with these)

3.15 million allows us to re-sign Okoye or Izzy without dipping into our free agent budget.
-
We don't need Izzy. We can pick up a good pass rushing DE, and get one in the mid round of the draft..

Having a new GM is the shiznit!

Overdue doesn't begin to cover this move.
Emery just got (another) +1 in my book.
"Professional Armchair Quarterback" and other oxymora.....
