Hopefully they can still work out something long term soon.

that sounds like why it was given to him. I think they just tagged him to give themselves some more time to hash out a long term deal, which Forte himself said he wasnt against, if they tagged him in good faith.
I believe Emery will get it done and lock up Forte long term for the bears.

Not at all unexpected. I don't know where they stand now but I'm sure the guarantee is the sticking point. If the Bears are still stuck around that $13-$14 mil figure they aren't gonna get it done and Forte needs to compromise and come off that $21 mil that DWill if that's where he's at. If they could get to $18 mil and add some incentives if he remains healthy and productive I think Forte should grab it.
I'm getting to that age where a lifetime warranty just doesn't mean as much to me anymore as an afternoon nap.

something tells me that 50 mil deal was a fake, i'm not to suprised by this either...disappointed but not suprised. I'm interested in how he responds to this b/c it will speak volumes about where they are in the negotiation.

Thisis a great move I'm very happy they tagged him and didn't give him a huge contact he's not worth...not sure if the 50 mil was a fake but let's get real he's not worth that he is an above average back who's numbers are a product of the system maybe eventully he can warrant a monster contract like that but for that money we need to see more

This is my understanding and please correct me if I am wrong here:
Forte's FT is about $7.9 million for 2012.
That number would go wholely against this year's cap if a deal isn't worked out.
The team has until July to still complete a longer term contract with MF.
If accomplished, the "cap hit" for this year would be determined by the details of that contract, not by the FT number.
Is this accurate?

Not sure about what dates are required for what, but yes, that is correct.

I guess I must be the only one that hates to see this happen. A long term deal should have been done along time ago. If it is being done so a long term deal can be done great but if it is only to keep Forte as a Bear for the next year I don't like it one bit.
