right now I think he's out of the league b/c he oc was a jag.
Hanie did get a raw deal and I think much of it was about Martz trying to prove he was right by A) not preparing him sufficiently as a backup and B) not making things easy for him when he did need to play. Martz never liked the guy because he wasn't his guy so he ruined him with this organization so his boy Enderle would get a shot. Now Martz is gone and we have a 240lb immobile pocket passer which isn't what we need.

Find some better vet help than McCown, let McCown compete with him and let the best man win. I'd love to have Orton back but I do not want "Wrecks" Grossman. Shaun Hill might be worth a look.
I'm getting to that age where a lifetime warranty just doesn't mean as much to me anymore as an afternoon nap.

I don't buy that, but I will say that I think Hanie was just a young QB who lost confidence to make the quick read after a few early backsets left him hesitant to pull the trigger. Martz called way too many 5 and 7-step drops with both him and Jay, so I don't see any difference there in philosophy -- just bad, stubborn, retarded, no-adjustment coaching.

As far as Enderle goes, I've said it before and I'll say it again, if you can throw the ball accurately and make good decisions, you can play in this league. The two best QBs of the decade are both completely immobile pocket-passer and you don't see Brees, Rivers or Eli on much more than the occasional boot. Heard the hype before with Cunningham, Young, Vick etc. and this season of passing records being shattered left and right shows that the QB position is still about who can be that guy making plays in the pocket.

Right you are. Vick and Cunningham were/are very special athletes and great fun, but the 'unathletic' Brady/Manning is a far better QB, P. Manning could (as shown in 2011) absolutely *carry* a team. Oh, and which "Young" the old Young or the young Young? I kid. The old Young was a wonderful combo of super athlete with great pocket QB. A couple of the finest years any QB ever had (admittedly with really good teammates which helps). Vince ain't much.

Of course he lost confidence and that's exactly what did him in. Cutler was barely able to survive with those play calls they were suicide calls with Hanie in there. You're 100% right. Martz just went straight ahead with arrogance and stupidity. Despite that at least two games were lost by veteran additions who after 7 years in the league should have the fundamentals of the game down by now. Add to that the fact that Martz never prepared him by giving him sufficient reps in practice to begin with.

You may not like the way I describe it but it doesn't change the fact that Martz did absolutely nothing to make it easier on Hanie in fact he did just the opposite and he said it publicly. He said the problem was that he wasn't giving Hanie enough. He was too confined and he was gonna open it up. Remember that? Hanie stuggled to make his reads with it to begin with which would tell me to shorten the drops and go more WCO. Martz didn't do that. He didn't even remain static. He upped every week until he got Hanie benched and nobody will ever convince me that wasn't at least somewhat intentional.

It had nothing to do with Hanie personally. He may even have liked the kid but for whatever reason there was something about his play that Martz didn't like the moment he got here and I believe he wanted to show everyone that he was right. Nobody can tell me that arrogant prick isn't capable of that.

Sox, the pocket passers you list play behind lines that can give them time to go through progressions and throw to the open man. We haven't had that luxury. Enderle = Jonathan Quinn behind our line right now. I agree that all of those guys are effective pocket passers but put anyone of then on the Bears and they would struggle mightily.
