Did I read this right?
Lovie Smith actually seeing a problem and addressing it NOW, vice December??? lol
Bears head coach Lovie Smith admitted last month the club needs to formulate a better plan at the backup quarterback position heading into the 2012 regular season.
Hanie, an unrestricted free agent, will be free to sign with any NFL team when free agency begins on March 13.
"Each year you learn something," Smith said last month. "We thought we had a better plan at quarterback. I knew how valuable Jay was to us and that won't change, but we do need to get ourselves in a better position at that backup quarterback position.

Hopefully they sign another decent vet and let him, McCown and Enderle duke it out for 2nd and 3rd string.
"Give 100%. 110% is impossible. Only idiots recommend that." - Ron Swanson
-
Um, goodbye Hanie, hope you find your own elsewhere, but kinda funny, our best bets for backup are Rex Grossman and Kyle Orton. Jason Campbell is not going to be had by us, and Shaun Hill is in the same boat. F**** Garrard...

Honestly, this is the season where we find out EXACTLY who Lovie Smith is..
We can't blame Angelo anymore...
So if Lovie makes stupid decisions, or if he's brilliant, we'll know where the issue was/is...
I hope he's brilliant..

Still feel like Caleb gotta raw deal w/having Martz as his OC. Think if he would have been allowed to run a stragiht WC O, he would have done ok, not great he's never going to be starter material, but as a wc backup qb I think he would have been ok.
right now I think he's out of the league b/c he oc was a jag.

I agree.. We've all seen it often in Chicago.
How many people left Chicago to do fairly well else where? Seems like it happens a lot.
I like Hanie. Not sure where he's at in his performance. Can he perform better? He has shown signs he has potential.
Who knows what Martz did to him.

Martz screwed him big time. Since he'd come cheap at this point, I'm not against signing him to compete for QB3 against Enderle to not use cap space on someone else. Who's an upgrade? Maybe Hill but he would be much more expensive. Just a thought...

With Lovie at the helm we all know how this is going to end, he's going to ride the wave of McCown until he's forced to come in again and shits the bed and leaves an entire fanbase emotionally bankrupt.

I think we all do Ski. I'm tired of this one good year followed by three mediocre ones crap. From now on any year we miss the playoffs is a bad year. If there was enough talent on this team to make it to the NFCC Game in 2010 and only miss it because we lost our QB and didn't have an experienced enough backup then after this offseason we should be right back in the hunt.
I'm getting to that age where a lifetime warranty just doesn't mean as much to me anymore as an afternoon nap.
