Just by watching you can see that he won't reach for a pass if there's a Safety within sight who can deck him if he does. The guy is a 6'3" 215 lb pussy and he's not a better alternative than some of the others.
He's not signed and there's no need to sign him. He had every opportunity to turn his career around last years and he didn't. All we heard were is lame ass excuses. He didn't man up to his flaws and his drops cost us a game just as Barbers mental error did against Denver. We don't need either of them.
I would like to high five that 6x.

We were interested in him 2 years ago and maybe we take a look see. The biggest issue is his age. We're trying to get younger on defense and he's 31. The other issue for a guy his age is would be any better than who we have. No problem kicking the tires though.
I'm getting to that age where a lifetime warranty just doesn't mean as much to me anymore as an afternoon nap.

I agree. How many more opportunities does he need to be given? He's not even worth having on the roster for the NFL minimum.

He had more receptions than Bennett last year but that could be because every defense knows the Cutler/Bennett connection is what you need to put a stop to when playing the Bears. It's common knowledge. The byproduct of this is less passes, receptions, yards, and TD's going to Bennett. Lets not forget to mention what doesn't show up in stats such as clutch plays and dropped passes. These hold as much clout as stats do. And when factoring that into consideration Williams fails to measure up against his teammates.

That is exactly why RWill got as much playing time as he did. I guess few noticed it but Martz has a huge ego and he hates to be wrong. He never like Caleb Hanie so he did to help the guy become a better QB. In effect he trashed his career.
Conversely Martz claimed RWill would come in and catch 70-80 passes. The proved once again that he couldn't catch a cold. Once again he was at the top of the league in drops and that doesn't include the misses on catchable balls.
The stats clearly show that Knox was a superior receiver yet Martz played RWill more because he didn't want to be proven wrong. RWill let him down, made nothing but excuses and made Martz look bad for touting him. That's Roy Williams. He had one good year in Detroit. It got him his career deal from Dallas and he's never lived up to it.
Every player who Martz insisted on having needs to be gone too. That includes Spaeth and Enderle as well. We no longer need a blocking TE as much as we did last year and when we do Andre Smith can do that job as well and a lot cheaper than Spaeth. He's just one more guy we can cut without having to replace since we already have someone on the team who can do it.

The fact that we had got rid of Olsen, which was Cutler's favorite weapon, pisses me off. Spaeth and Davis don't even come close to the talent we had with Olsen. Now the league has some monster tight-ends like Gronkowski, Hernandez, Graham, and Finley. We saved some money but lost so much talent. Without a fierce tight-end it was all too obvious where the ball was going to go, making it easier for the defense to pick us apart.

I think you're selling Davis short nellie. He's a hell of a lot better blocker than Olsen will ever be. The running game was much more productive because of it. He's pretty athletic for a guy his size and while he may not be quite as fast as Olsen he's much better after the catch. It takes more than a first hit to bring him down.
We really don't know good the kid can be because Martz refused to use him very often in the passing game even when he was a success. He scores a lot of TD's for as few times as he had catches and still Martz looked that other way.
Tice was a TE and I'm betting he'll get Davis more involved and than we'll know whether or not we have a pass catcher too. He out played Spaeth as a blocker too. We should just cut Speath, play Andre Smith and swing Spaeth $$$ over to Davis and keep him around for the year to see how he does. It's a very weak class of TE's in the draft and the FA's are only slightly better than the draftees. Davis deserves a shot.

Lovie has a lot of faith in Davis. I'm not trying to say he isn't any good. He could turn out to be a great tight-end. During his short time with the team he has performed about average, in my opinion. I simply have a hard time understanding why they got rid of Olsen who had proved what an asset he was when we had him. Rarely did he drop a pass and he plays full throttle. I like that in a player. On top of that, Cutler and him were on the same page. Many times it was Olsen who was the target on third down because he was solid. I can only imagine it came down to money. That would make sense.
Now Davis is much more inexpensive than Olsen and is possibly capable of the same productivity. I believe in him and I'm glad he's part of the roster. This year he has to show us more of what he can do. He'll get his chance and I'm confident he'll make some big plays. I'm behind Tice all the way. Things are looking pretty good for us. We don't usually draft well but, with Martz gone, this year is our year.
