I understand Windy's point here--rookie WRs rarely impact greatly their 1st year (outside of maybe the top 10 in the draft).

Of course, the same can be said for rookie pass rushers, especially those who are basically 3-4 OLBs being converted into full time 4-3 DEs. That point seems to be lost here...it's sort of assumed that we just plug in VJ and Floyd--and then some other rookie draft pick will magically upgrade our pass rush.

    Uhhhh, sorry....doubt it.

    Agreed.

But our pass rush is not that bad and has an All-Pro player in Peppers and a 7 sack DT in Melton.

    Our passing offense has........

I can understand the concerns about "excessive concentration" of resources in one position. I think the problem here is that a lot of people are looking at this with very short-term glasses on.

Izzy is a "B" run defender but not much of a pass rusher. I like the guy but he's hardly worth keeping around all that much longer. He and Peppers are past 30 (32 I believe), even Julius can't have more than a few years left at a high level of play. In a couple years, even assuming Izzy is re-signed, we will have basically NOTHING at DE.

There's nothing in the pipeline right now other than CDavis and Wooten. In other words, NOTHING.

I agree completely. If we get Mario we would be set @ DE for years to come and we could then use the draft to address the other needs for the future.

Our WR and OL would still suck.

We need some offensive impact players this year, our defense has not cost us the last couple of seasons.

BigPapa i know your skeptical of bringing in Williams but you have to remember a torn peck is NOTHINGGGGGG compared to a knee or back or neck issue. I remember hearing that Mario could have played the next playoff game if they would have won if he wasnt IR'ed, also i want a great pass rush that will put Rodgers and Stafford throwing our secondary picks. Remember a great push rush and the cover 2 doesnt require a good secondary. I like Hawthorne to to his youthfulness and his ability to swing out to a LOLB now and transition back to MLB when Urlacher retires

Now on to the draft. Again i speak crazy when i say this but we all know the interior lineman we all want will be GONE sooo in that case i would focus 100% on grooming WR for Cutler and i would draft back to back WR with my first and second round picks. With the 1st i would take Jeffery(unless Floyd is there) and with my second i would trade up with giving up one or both my 3rd picks and grabbing for Hill. Right there youve given helped Cutler out and afterwards i would fill the necessary holes
I can deal with the Bears bringing in Mario, as long as they pick up either Jackson, Colston or Garcon.
Floyd and Blackmon look like the only 2 WRs that look NFL ready. I think the Bears should consider moving up a few slots to make sure they pick up Floyd. You have room to do that with that extra pick in the 3rd rd from the Panthers. I definitely don't have a problem drafting back to back WRs but I would not at all be comfortable going into this season without having added a veteran WR.

If adding Williams, comes at the expense of VJax or Colston or Garcon, and a veteran O-lineman, then yes its a stupid acquisition. Addressing one need on defense at the expense of a few on offense is the kind of crappy philosphy Angelo had the past few years. And I don't believe Emery is going to repeat those mistakes.

The Colts are dreaming if they think anyone will trade for him with his $14 mil salary and another $2.5 mil in potential bonuses. He's need to agree to restructure his deal and there's no reason to do that. The Colts will need to release him because they're not gonna take a $19 mil cap hit for him. Once they release him he can negotiated with any other team who wants him.

MWill should be the guy in our cross hairs with guy like Freeney, Abrahams, Jones, Mincey on the fallback list FA starts tomorrow so we shouldn't have long to wait. If they want MWill they need to strike hard and fast just like we did with Pep. If they don't do that we'll know Emery has other plans for a pass rusher. Stay tuned for further developments.
