Should the Bears Shop in the 2nd Tier?
I keep thinking about how the Bears could approach free agency with 30 million plus in free agency and a number of needs.
Much of the debate has focused around which top level, or top 10, FA we should pursue Vincent Jackson, Mario Williams and Carl Nicks and all of those players would be massive upgrades to their respective positions.
But what if the Bears take another approach and instead of investing huge money in one player, they invested less money in a couple of players to fill a number of needs and use the draft to try and build their superstar talent.
The Bears could go after guys lower on the list that still represent an upgrade by still allowing them to build through the draft.
WR
Pierre Garcon
Robert Meachem
Laurent Robinson
DE
Jeremy Mincey
Kamerion Wimbley
OG
Ben Grubbs
CB
Richard Marshall
Tracy Porter
I wonder if the Bears would be better with 3-4 player off of the the 2nd tier list to improve weaknesses and allow them to be more selective in the draft.

You could get many options and weapons from doing this. You also could get younger and more experienced at the same time (w/the draft). I know everyone (myself included) wants to take that home-run shot with the top tier guys but this is another viable way to do it. That is an A+ list Windy then you still have the draft.
Arguing on the internet is like winning the special olympics, even if you win your still messed up.

It depends on the price tag of the second tier guys. If your paying allot of money to an average talent might as well spend a little more for gold

said it before and say it again... our biggest problem is depth and you don't buy a #1 WR, you make them

Well then we are S.O.L. because we all know that Drake can't develop film let alone WR's.

OG Ben Grubbs 5 years 35 million [7 average]
WR Pierre Garcon 5 years 35 million [7 average]
CB Richard Marshall 4 years 16 million [4 average]
We could add 3 players that are major upgrades in weakness areas and will not individually break the bank.
This would also allow the Bears to go into the early part of the draft and focus on WR and DE.

Windy, if we did trade that Car 3rd for Freeney(as your post about that tweet said the Bears would be interested in doing), how would the cap look? That would really allow us to go bpa straight through the draft adding starting quality/depth all over the field.

Now you are talking this is the kind of FA I would love to see the Bears do. And then take a top WR in the draft.

Sign
OG Ben Grubbs
WR Pierre Garcon
CB Richard Marshall
QB Kyle Orton
Draft
*Trade* 1[19 and 3[74] to Arizona for 1[13]
The Cardinals need picks because of the Kolb trade and we have addressed serious needs in free agency and can now be more aggressive in the draft.
1[13] WR Michael Floyd [Notre Dame]
Big physical compliment to Garcon.
2[50] DE Vinny Curry [Marshall]
Re-sign Idonije and give him Curry for 3rd downs.
3[80] LB Terrell Manning [NC State]
4. OT Matt McCants [UAB]
Developmental LT.
5. LB DeMario Davis [Arkansas St]
6. S Damien Jackson [Ole Miss]
7. CB Omar Bolden [Arizona St]
