Quick Mock Before Free Agency
Free Agency:
Robert Meachem: With Meachem reaching free agency the Bears should pounce. He would come to Chicago with a chance for a much larger role in the offense then in New Orleans and with Cutlers arm he’d be a dangerous deep threat at any time. He provides the Bears with some size and also has intriguing upside.
Eddie Royal: Eddie Royal could come dirt cheap due to his lack of production since Cutler left Denver and Chicago would be the perfect place for Royal. He could be a very solid slot guy and the fact he has chemistry with Cutler is invaluable. It’s time to reunite Cutler with another former WR.
David Hawthorne: With Hawthorne the Bears prepare for life after Briggs if Briggs continues whining and demanding trades, until then the Bears would boast a very impressive trio of linebackers. With Hawthorne moving to the starting position ahead of Roach the Bears gain some depth too due to the fact that Roach has played well when needed.
Kelvin Hayden: If Hayden passes a physical the Bears would be very interested in the corner, as they always have been. He’s a perfect fit for the Cover-2 the Bears run and would provide an upgrade over Jennings. If healthy a Tillman/Hayden combo would vastly improve the secondary, and he would come on the cheap.
Kamerion Wimbley: While he’s still on the Raiders roster it seems he’s unwilling to restructure his contract and therefore will most likely hit the open market. He was the Bears top target a year prior and they desperately need an edge rusher opposite Peppers. With Wimbley the Bears would boast an impressive front four and the Raiders were in a 43 set the majority of last year and Wimbley was still able to be successful.
NFL Draft:
First Round [19th] David DeCastro: With a run on wide receivers and pass rushers one of the most elite prospects to come along in ages drops to Chicago and they snatch him up quickly. DeCastro has the potential to be a perennial Pro-Bowler and would help out the Bears line immensely. Consider by many to be the safest pick the draft the Bears get a steal at 19 and a guard who will lock down his position for many years to come.
Second Round [51st] Marvin McNutt: Chicago continues to add youth and playmakers to their receiving corps as they pick up McNutt out of Iowa. He has measurables comparable to Michael Floyd and would provide an instant red zone target due to his unbelievable leaping ability. He could be groomed as Meachem, Bennett, and Royal start for the Bears.
Third Round [72nd] Cam Johnson: Chicago adds a young promising defensive end who can develop while Peppers and Wimbley cause havoc. The Bears add him to the rotation and he has immediate impact and always on fresh legs. Questions about his motor but Rod Marinelli seems to make those type of questions disappear.
Third Round [83rd] Nigel Bradham: The Bears pick up Nigel Bradham with their second third round pick and Toub is ecstatic. Bradham is a heat seeking missile and will provide special teams with someone who can blow up players. While he’s dominating special teams he can develop behind Urlacher and Briggs and has the potential to be a starter down the line.
Fourth Round [111th] Nate Potter: Chicago adds a technician in Potter who has as good of technique as you’re going to find in the fourth. He will provide youth and quality depth to the OL as he develops with Tice molding him as he sees fit.
Fifth Round [142nd] Justin Bethel: Most know the name due the fact the Bears ran an article on him but in the fifth round Bethel provides the Bears with some intriguing depth and a player who can develop and learn from the star stocked defense. He also possesses amazing leaping ability.
Sixth Round [173rd] Cyhl Quarles: Bears add Quarles from Wake Forest, a safety who provides depth and will join Bradham on Toub’s ever consistent special teams. Already has experience in special teams and comes with good size and is an aggressive tackler.
Seventh Round [204th] Bobby Wagner: Wagner competes hard and is tough and extremely durable. At this point you’re looking for depth and Wagner can provide that. With a great work ethic could stick around.
