UPDATE 3:12 p.m. ET: It’s not just a rumor. Adam Schefter of ESPN reports that the league will remove “millions” in salary-cap space from the Cowboys and Redskins for their uncapped-year deals.
The NFL is taking away millions of dollars of salary-cap space belonging to the Dallas Cowboys and Washington Redskins for front-loading contracts during the uncapped 2010 season, according to league sources.

The salary cap is projected to be $120.6 million in 2012, but the Cowboys will lose $10 million, while the Redskins will be docked $36 million in cap space, sources said.
Dallas and Washington can split the cap loss over the 2012 and '13 seasons in whatever form they prefer, with $1.6 million each going to 28 other NFL teams, the sources said.
Wow! I guess I don't understand why it's being taken away. Can anyone elaborate? Regardless, though, $36M?! Anyone know where this puts Dallas and Washington now for their cap excess (or deficit lol)?
From what I understand they altered contracts and gave extensions in such an extreme manner that the league decided it gave an unfair advantage to them and punished them.
The Cowboys Miles Austin cap hit in the uncapped year was 17 million, which is excessive, and now they have him for 5 years and less than 40 million.
Wow, does thatstop the market-killing "Snyder deal" from reaching VJax's table?
The article says they have a choice of how they want to apply the penalty. They could push a lot of it into 2013 if they choose to. The Bucs are also pretty interested in him and they've got a pile of cap excess to work with. They could front load the hell out of a deal if they want to.
Apparently the league warned all teams not to dump cap hit sn penatlies into the uncapped year and the Redskins and Cowboys did it anyway, classic Jerry Jones and Dan Snyder.
My guess is that they will take 20 million this season and 16 next season, but it hurts them in their pursuit of Jackson.
