You're not the only one who feels that way about it. He may well be the biggest risk for the buck in this group of FA's. I'd much rather sign two lesser players with a lot of upside and draft another. Royal, Meachem, Josh Morgan are FA possibilities and the draft is loaded with WR talent this year.
I'm still of the belief that virtually anyone we add from this group of FA's will upgrade the position. It doesn't need to be the top guy at the expense of other considerations. There are more good options at WR than any other position.

We can add Safety O.J. Atogwe to the list of FA. Washington cut him and Mike Sellers today. Atogwe was a guy we were interested in as a FA a couple of years ago. We need some Safety help and there isn't much to be had in the draft so look for the Bears to be kicking the tires of a few of these guys in FA.

Brad Biggs @BradBiggs #Rams will release CB Ron Bartell
I am very interested if he is healthy the guy is a big physical CB that has made plays in the NFL.

I really hope that the Bears stay in the dance up to 11 million a season.
If it gets north of that the Bears should call Robert Meachem and Kam Wimbley and put the money in there.
My realistic wish list
WR Robert Meachem
DE Kamerion Wimbley
CB Richard Marshall
Draft
1[19] WR Stephen Hill [Georgia Tech]
2[50] OG Kevin Zeitler [Wisconsin]

The more I talk to scouts, the more I have to wonder if #Bears make a play for CB Brandon Carr. GM Phil Emery obviously knows him from K.C.
Adam Schefter @AdamSchefter
Cardinals are expected to release OT Levi Brown, whom Arizona selected with the fifth pick in the 2007 draft ahead of RB Adrian Peterson.

I would be shocked if the Bears paid that much for a CB. Levi Brown probably ranks pretty close to Webb as one of the worst LT in the NFL. Jared Gaither is there if San Diego doesn't try to keep him and he would be a better choice if we go in that direction.

I'd still add Eddie Royal to that list. If we move Bennett out to Flanker as we should than Royal becomes the slot and we've upgraded all three receiver positions. Meachem/Knox, Bennett/Hester, and Royal/Sanz. This crew allows us to work Hill into the lineup slowly not expecting too much to begin with. We still need a pass rusher and I'm not completely sold on Wimbley unless as a fall back in the event we can't get MWill.
I still believe that players like Pep and MWill hit FA so infrequently that when they do a team like the Bears who depend heavily on a four man pass rush needs to go after them with all they can muster. I'd agree that Wimbley is an upgrade over what we have now provided he can make a switch to DE but MWill is more than just an upgrade. Adding him to a line that has Pep playing on the other side of the line gives us two of the best all around DE's in the NFL. Costly yes, but with a cost vs benefit analysis, well worth it.

hope you're right Soul, but I don't see it happening. It's the sort of long term, high expense move this team is not known for.

We did it with Pep and George McCaskey has already said money won't be an issue. No doubt he'd cost as much as Pep did and possibly a little more but once we absorb that money and structure the deal right it's a great fit. We'll know almost immediately if Emery is gonna make a play for him. MWill isn't gonna be available very long.
