I'd argue he is worth that - look what Peppers did for us. Peppers is more complete, but also has been around more to develop more. Williams is younger and can still get better. An elite DE is worth big money. It's the only real way to throw off guys like Brady and Rogers.
Unfortunately we have one of them in our back yard. Even with Peppers, we rarely get to him. That would have been a different story, I don't know... I think worth is different for everyone.

I still believe in my heart of hearts that we will probably wind up taking a DE in the first round. I really believe that now that we didn't get a DE in free agency, something like that will happen.

Totally agree. That defense would've been formidable but the rest of the roster would've paid the price.

Hey purple! Long time no see or talk! How are you doing?
Anyway, my thinking is that the Bears will draft a DE in the first round over a OT because, believe it or not, there is less risk of drafting a bust at DE than going after an OT who may not be able to play anything other than RT when we need a LT. That's probably going to be Bears' strategy going into the draft since they haven't been able to procure a DE yet.

Shit ... posted as a precognitive Freudian slip that turned into reallity.
But goddamn if we had the coin to land this guy.
His career in Buffalo will be so -so.
In Chicago ... certain Sainthood.

FWIW from WalterFootball:
Bills sign DE Mario Williams (6 years,$100M; $50M guaranteed): B- Grade
Reports are that Mario Williams is now the richest defensive player in NFLhistory. Williams' contract will dwarf Peppers' 6-year, $84 million deal.
I'm not a huge fan of this signing. As I've written repeatedly, players who gofrom good teams to bad franchises for the money seldom pan out. Sure, gettingMario Williams seems great now, but that's exactly how Redskin fans felt whenDaniel Snyder signed Albert Haynesworth. There's a reason why successful NFLorganizations build through the draft and not free agency.
Williams could have taken a bit less money to play for a winner. Instead, hehas shown us that his top priority is his paycheck. With that in mind, is hegoing to care if the Bills make the playoffs? If he wanted to contend for aSuper Bowl, he would have stayed with Houstonor gone to another good team. His ultimate goal, as he has proven, does notinvolve winning the Super Bowl. Otherwise, he wouldn't have signed with Buffalo.
I do not completely hate this signing though because it's big for the Bills'organization (at least at the present moment). The front office needed to giveits fan base some hope, as the team hasn't qualified for the playoffs since1999. Maybe this acquisition will spark a culture change in Buffalo. Maybe Williams will help turn thisfranchise around. I wouldn't bet on it, but crazier things have happened.

The pisser is for Emery to find him in the draft ...
if somthing of this caliber is around in the first round ...
that kind of talent ...
do we go there or stay true to build an OL with OL and WR?
You gotta thank God yer not Emery.
Who strikes me more and more as the guy you are looking at while you are in the Dentists chair.

The only guy in this draft who may have a potential to dominate is Coples and we can't within sniffing distance of him. We can't blame Emery for losing out on MWill. We got slickered by his agent who was more interested in making him the highest paid defensive player more than he was MWill's career and where he'd be the best fit.
That's old news now and we need to move on. We saved some major league cap space by not signing him an it's time to put that to work on two or three others that can help us to win. Another CB, depth and an upgrade and LB, and getting Okoye signed. He's as good as any 2nd round draft choice we could get.
I'm getting to that age where a lifetime warranty just doesn't mean as much to me anymore as an afternoon nap.
