Bears After Mincey
Mario Williams proved to be a bit rich for the Bears’ tastes, but they may have found a defensive end more in their price range.
The team has set its sights on former Jaguar
Jeremy Mincey and is moving to try to secure a deal. They may not be alone in their pursuit of Mincey, who came into his own last year.
The 28-year old had eight sacks and was a productive run player for the Jaguars. His try-hard style would fit in well with the Bears.
Mincey was drafted by the Patriots and also was with the 49ers before joining the Jaguars.
Signing him could preclude the Bears from re-signing
Israel Idonije, who is a free agent.
Williams is visting with the Bills tonight.

I will take him for the Ray Edwards contract of 5 years 25 mil he got last year. Not a penny more

I'm really, really hoping that this is a bluff the Bears are running on the MWill camp, trying to call the bluff the MWill camp is running on the Bears. Someone please share with me what they see in this kid. I would rather have Izzy back. This kid has playing in the league for 6 seaosns and has only 76 tackles TOTAL. He had 8 sacks this year, and even if you consider that to be great (which it is not), then consider the fact that 5 of those 8 came against the Colts. Hell EVERYONE feasted on the Colts. Over the other 14 games he had 3 and he lucked into 1 pic. Before this year he had 5 sacks in 2010 and he only has 15 over 6 years.
This can't be real, and I swear, if it is, then it's more of the same Lovie and Marinelli leading Emery down another reclamation project because they think they are that damn good. I fear that if they give this kid a fat contract then this will be the defensive version of OMG.

yeah, I'm not really impressed either. Not to say he won't break out, but if the Bears are playing a game of chicken with Williams, it could backfire. If I was Williams and wanted to come to Chicago (not that I know that part is even true), and I heard they gave up and were going after someone else, then I might sigh with the Bills while I was there.

they are not playing a game of chicken w/Williams...Williams is off their Radar b/c they cannot give him the money the Bills can.

I would give him a little more than half that. He's a good Idonije-esque story (minus being a canuck, of course), breaking out after finally getting a shot due to years of hard, unheralded work from UDFA to PS to 53-man to ST to backup to rotation to starter. However, I'd rather give that money to Okoye and he's worth nowhere near that. I would love to see us move up to get Perry in the draft, because I like him more and more every time I see his tape. I would easily trade our remaining third to secure him.

I'm stubborn (read stupid). I'm not going to believe Emery gave up on him until he signs somewhere else. Or until we sign someone else -- which in fact may be happening.

You are more than likely correct, I'm just saying I don't like their Plan B and I hope that it is more the game of chicken than reality. Unfortunatly, that is (genuine interest in Mincey) what I believe to be the case. I would prefer to re-sign Izzy and pick up a DE in the draft. People talk about Mercilus being a one year wonder, but that is exactly what this kid is, and his one year isn't even that impressive.

Either way wouldn't mind getting him but think getting him still puts de as a need going into draft
And fellas I think the Mario Williams ship sailed once buffalo got involved. They are set to make him the highest paid defense player in league. I think we were in it until that happened. If he would take peppers deal I bet we would have been all over it

I'm not sure if this is a negotiating/leverage play with Mario or if I WANT it to be a negotiating/leverage play with Mario. I think the latter is more likely
