I'm with Henry on this one. We don't need to re-sign Davis if we can draft Clemson's Dwayne Allen in the second round.
Or Stanford's Coby Fleener?
Or Georgia's Orson Charles?

I'd rather pick up Chandler Jones in the second round than any of those guys.

Take a DE in the first round and then we can still draft a decent TE in the second or maybe even in the third round. ;-)
Btw, I'd love to see us drafting Notre Dame's SS Harrison Smith. He's also projected to go in the 2nd/3rd round.

Heard lots of love for Harrison Smith and that a team could bite on him in the first, if he's around in the second for sure he sure won't be there in the third. It all depends on who's available, good chance that no DE's (worth taking) are around for us in the first round. All depends on who we like and who's there. I know we added Brandon Marshall but we still need to add another receiver, preferably one in the top three rounds to develop and hopefully contribute unless we sign someone else. It'd be much easier to sign Davis and then just go best player available, no reason to handcuff ourselves to taking a TE in a very weak class.

I agree that Davis was the better of the two both as a blocker and as an overall TE. Whoever did those ratings must not have been watching much. Apparently he didn't see the block Spaeth missed in the KC game that got Forte injured or the times he failed to handle his man in pass blocking. We made mistakes in two consecutive years trying to give Martz what he needed in a TE and Spaeth is as much of a waste of money as Manu was.
We need an all around TE and Davis would be the front runner if he resigns. Andre Smith can easily step into Spaeth's role and Kyle Adams has the goods to play in an HB role like Kleinsasser did in Minny. The TE class isn't strong this year and I doubt we'd find a guy even as good as Adams but if we draft to replace anyone he should be the guy, not Davis.
It's entirely possible the Bears have encouraged him to see what his market value is and then they'll make an offer based on that. If he resigns with the Bears he's in line for the #1 spot as well.

bucs tried trading winslow to us and we didnt bite
rumors are he will be cut
i wouldnt mind winslow or boss

if allen can be had in the third, that's the best deal there is. If we got a TE in the 2nd, we'd have to do some serious trading back...

Allen isn't a better choice than re-signing Davis. He's 3" shorter, 20lbs lighter, not quite as fast and isn't the combo blocker and receiver Davis is. Hard for me to understand why we'd want to replace our best blocking and receiving TE who has 5 TD's in his last 17 receptions, and has 4 years experience with a rookie. If he over prices himself sure that becomes a consideration but otherwise he rates ahead of any rookie in this draft. It's a weak draft for TE's.
