Come on, Phil. You can do better than that.
Can't be that easy or it would be done by now. Having him under a franchise tag is a heavy burden on the cap.
I'm just wondering what the stumbling block is. The Bears can hardly deny him what others are getting and that comes to about $40 mil / 5 years and 50% guaranteed. It's pretty foolish to think he'd accept less. I think if he's looking for more than that he's the one holding up the procession. We don't really know though.
I'm getting to that age where a lifetime warranty just doesn't mean as much to me anymore as an afternoon nap.

What it could be is that they are waiting until after FA's settled down to figure out what can be done. That's my best guess. All the big fish are pretty much eaten, if nothing is done w/in the next 2-3 weeks, then I'll start worrying.
He could be asking for something between the 40mil 50% and what AP/CJ got...if he is...well he's F'n nuts.
They could be sticking to the "home down discount" belief they were on last yer...if they are...well their F'n nuts.

He is far from chris johnson and adrian peterson talent and i hope both sides realize this

Nope. Forte is a known quantity and is more important to the offense then what we could get in return.

looking at total yards, he's not that far off. it's the TD's that put him at the teir below them. You get into the Foster/Rice/MJD range w/him and that's more the mark. He's far above the Gore's, DWill's though...Other teams set a bad market but that's not Forte's fault or problem, that's the Bears, and in a union who are directed by agents you cannot come up w/a "fair deal" based on ones abilities w/out giving him what other players of his said abilities have gotten, as well as the ones below and above him.
NO's gave Colston 42 mil, Garcon' isn't worth 40 mil, Wash paid him that way, which meant TB and Det have to up the anti for those that are now #1 stud WR's are worth 6 years 130 mil....just stupid, but go tell Fitz or Andre Johnson come their next contract that they don't deserve that money; or whoever the next great WR is that comes up.

I would not trade Forte this year. That's just an irrational move. I would give him a contract, as someone indicated in this thread, that averages $18 - $22 million guaranteed. If he rejects that offer, then let him play out the year and see how does and we worry about his contract next offseason.
That being said...I still wonder if Forte is going to repeat his 2011 season. Don't get wrong, I love his skills. He's an outstanding runner in the open field. I'd just like to see him play at this high of a level in 2012 before showing him the money. The franchise tag salary should wet his appetite for this year.
Show us you are worth the money Forte. Take your game to a whole new level in 2012!

I hope he does go earn that big contract its just premature to give in to him

It's also possible that they are waiting to see how much cap room they need. If they are done, they might want to take as big a cap hit as they can this year and free up more money for the following years - and vice versa - if they need more cap space, structure it that way. They can always restructure it, but if they can only do it once, its better. It seems like they were close at one point, but that may have been to clear that franchise cap for Williams when they thought they could still get him.
Bottom line is not too many people past Emery really know....

i would rather trade my first for Mike Wallace.

Forte's main job is getting the offense down the field. The reason he hasn't scored more touchdowns than he has is because the offensive line is horrible inside the red zone, as it is most everywhere else. We've had better luck pounding Bell and Barber into the end zone because they are power runners while Forte is probably best described as more of a big "scat back." That being said, I think he would score more often if we drafted someone in the first three rounds to open holes in the middle of the line (like Cordy Glenn, Peter Konz, or Kevin Zeitler). Doing this would essentially eliminate approximately 80% of the weaknesses on the line, leaving only Webb as the real weak link.
Also, for some reason, I keep thinking that someone wrote a post about getting Coples in the draft if we traded Matt Forte, but here's what I have to say: I would not be shocked if Whitney Mercilis is drafted by the Bears. Right now, WalterFootball.com is projecting the Bears to take Stephen Hill with the 19th overall pick, but I think that will change dramatically because of the Marshall trade. We need either another offensive lineman or a defensive tackle. Cordy Glenn's name was brought up, but projected to be drafted just one spot after us is Mercilis, whose draft stock has risen since the Combine.
