Isn't Buffalo toying with the idea of moving to Canada? Future tax break for him? Just a thought.

WR is about the last piece you need.
RB is the last piece you need to win a SB

Buffalo is the third NFL team in NY. If he wanted muchos endorsements, then he should've played in a huge market.

your not paying attention to the nfl if you think that. but more power to you. You start from Lines and work out. QB, OL, DL, LB/DB, RB/WR.
RB's are still more important the WR's. I'd take Adrian P, Chris J, Foster Forte, over Andre J, Calvin J, Fitz, Colston, Welker anyday b/c you still need to manage the clock through the run game. NYG's won the SB and goto the SB w/getting the lead through the air, then pounding the rock to draw out the clock. If you cannot run the ball the other O can score just as quckly putting the pressure back on you.
The softening of the rules to protect WR's and QB's has actually lowered the value of them. You still need them don't get me wrong, but the RB is how you counter them. Multiple qb's threw for 5K yards this year, record numbers threw for 4K...the way you counter that....run the ball and keep them off the field. That's how you beat NE, GB, Det, etc. Keep THEIR high powered O off the field. The only way to do that is by running.

Soul, if he's a big enough star, he can get endorsements...and where he plays doesn't matter. The world is shrinking and you don't need to be in a big market to get big deals anymore...you just have to be willing to put yourself out there and want the endorsements. Is it easier if your in a big market yes, but it isn't a requirement anymore; that is backward thinking before the advent of the internet and the easy access of cable to the masses.

Yes Jimmors, I'm disappointed we didn't get him because the fit was perfect but the Bills had the coin to turn it their way and I'll applaud them for that. At about $90 mil I stopped working out numbers in my head. We did what we could but Buffalo did better. Whether or not MWill is better off remains to be seen. And like I said, you can't lose what was never your to begin with.
Ric, Green Bay has a long and very high profile image as Titletown USA. It may be small but GB gets significant national attention and has for as long as I've been aware of pro football. GB has a tremendous global fans base. I doubt Buffalo could match that. I believe they're the second smallest market in the NFL and known primarily as a team that lost 4 consecutive Super Bowls. Green Bay has won more championships than any other NFL team They even attract significant attention in Chicago whereas New Yorkers could care less about a city 400 miles upstate and even less about there football team. Buffalo is trying to court fans from Toronto because they can't fill it with their own. GB does not have that problem. In other words there is no fair comparison between the two. His exposure would be far better in GB than Buffalo but apparently that wasn't enough of a concern to change his mind.
BBPapaBear I think you're right. Pep is a more complete player than MWill is right now. I believe MWill would have benefited greatly from playing with Pep but maybe wearing #90 in Buffalo than #95 or whatever in Chicago was important too. Maybe he just didn't want to share the limelight or then again maybe it was just the almighty buck. It's never a good idea to buy what you can't afford and clearly signing him at his price would have stretched us to thin. I said from the get go that we take our best shot and let the chips fall where they may. We did and we move on. There are other fair damsels to court. Just because the first girl you ask to the prom turns you down is no reason no to ask another.
It's just another day in the life. We didn't have him before and we'll get along without him now. It was just a very delicious dream to conjure up watching Rodgers trying scramble away from that two headed monster. So we draft a good pass rusher instead and save about $90 mil we can put to use elsewhere.
Agree with your synopsis SoulMan. We'll find a pass rusher before we start 2012. It may end up being through the draft with our #1 but who knows what Emery has up his sleeve. We still have to wait and se what happens with Wimbley and Freeney. So who knows what will happen in the next few days when their situations get resolved.

look at the last 5 SB winning teams and who they've had as RBs. Now look at the last 5 SB winning teams and who they've had as WRs. You will see the difference and how important those WRs were to these teams.
You don't need a Top5 RB to win the SB and you don't need to pay him more than Foster got. If he wants more, trade him. If he wants to hold out, trade him. We have many other holes to fill and a guy like Bush with Bell would be good enough to get some 1st downs. RB is the most easy position to replace and get some production out of it.
I agree that it's QB > OL > DL > LB/DB. But after that, it's WR > RB
this isn't the 90s any more. Elite RBs don't win you the SB any more.
if a Forte Trade brings us a 1st to draft OL and we can sign Manningham + Bush and draft DE with our 1st, we would be a better team.
I like Forte, but if he wants to much and won't resign... I don't want that Drama here

top WR's: Wes Welker/Hakeem Nicks. Top RB's: Bradshaw/Jacobs no one worth mentioning. The better WR lost, better rb's won. qb's brady/emanning(better qb lost), d's, better d won.
top wr's: jennings/driver ward. top rb's mendenhal/starks. better wr's won, better rb lost. Qb's better qb won, better D lost.
top WR's Fitz/Boldin, Ward/S Holmes. RB's Willie Parker, E James. The better WR duo lost, better rb won again. qb's warner/roth(i'm calling that a tie) better D Pitt, won.
top WR's Colston/Wayne. RB's Addai, PThomas/Bush. better wr's won, so did the better rb's. qb's brees/manning(better qb lost), D's both were average.
top WR's Moss/Welker/Stalworth, Toomer/Smith/Buress rb's Bradshaw/Jacobs Maroney/K Faulk. WR's I'd call a draw, maybe slight advantage to NE, clear advantage, better rb's win. qb's brady/e manning(better qb lost) better D won.
top wr's, wayne/harrison, moose/bradley, top rb's addai/rhodes, thomas/benson. Better wr's won, better rb's lost(1st time if your counting) qb's manning, he won the other guy was a laughable joke. Better D lost.
top wr's, ward top rb's, alexander, bettis/parker.(this was bs game handed to pitt by the refs) but again both better wr and rbs won. qb's hasslebeck/roth(calling this won a tie, slight advantage roth) better qb won, better D won.
top wr's owens branch. top rb's westbrook. better wr/rb lost. qb's(brady/mcnabb) better qb won, better D lost
The elite rb's/wr's from this past several sb's were: Owens/Moss/Fitz/AJohnson/CJohnson. 2 have made it to the sb, neither won a sb. The Elite RB's during the same time, Bettis/Alexander/LT/AP/CJohnson. 2 have made it to the SB, 1 has won it.
Keep thinking WR's are important. You don't need elite WR's or RB's they are the last on the pecking order of needs...but you sure to hell don't let them walk when you draft a top one either. The better rb's tend to win more then the top WR's once you get into the playoffs and the SB. Oddly enough better D's still tend to win and the better Qb's tend to be a tossup.
The WR's play are completely dictated by the play of the qb...which IS the most important position. Therefore people think that elevates that position, but it doesn't. Rb's are still very important b/c they eat/control the clock.
What you DO need is above average play from both the WR and RB position. But looking down the list of the past several sb's w/most dominant wr's and rb's, the rb's get there more often and win more often...pretty slim in both cases.

I think I fall somewhere in the middle of this argument, maybe leaning more towards Ric's side. The problem with simply saying that elite RB's aren't that much help in winning championships isn't exactly comparing apples to apples. I'd say most of the elite RB's around today and in the recent past have been exactly that, RUNNING backs. But, Forte is dangerous on the ground AND in the passing game. Not to mention he's a good blocker. Cutler loves checking down to him and has probably saved his hide more times than we can count. I'm honestly not too familiar with Bush, but there is no way he is going to step in as our starter without seeing a pretty noticeable decline from that position. I would be more than willing to pay Forte a bit more than Foster got if I were the Bears. Now, if they have offered him reasonably more than the Foster deal and he's still declining that, then I agree that maybe a trade should be sought. But, if there is any way to get him to sign on that line without crippling your cap you do it.
