Yeah, he was officially released. But, if the Chiefs are interested, i think he ends up there, reuniting with Crennel who drafted him to begin with.

The fact that you identify him as a "player" is what should make him a good prospect. We need more football players and less athletes and YouTube attraction who can vault out of pools. He may be a little smaller than you'd like but he's pretty much the same size as Ogun was, same size as Abrahams and a little bigger than Robert Mathis. I think in his case and in the case of every one of those "tweener" guys in the draft the evaluation is the same. Can the guy play out of a three point stance or as sox describes it, can he play with his hand "in the dirt". Not all of these guys can make that conversion of lining up with an OT in their face. I'll trust the Bears to have done their homework on him and the draftees and not sign a guy who can't play as a 4-3 DE. I don't think all of these guys need top go 280lbs to be effective but it's those bigger guys who can dominate. The trouble is we lost out to Buffalo on one who could and we won't even get near enough to sniff Coples in the draft so we've gotta find the best we can in a 260-270lb guy.
I'm getting to that age where a lifetime warranty just doesn't mean as much to me anymore as an afternoon nap.

I'd love to grab Wimbley. As for those lingering on losing out on Mincey, don't be. The guys career and ability do not dictate the 4/27 he got, and I'd just as soon draft any one of the potential DEs in round one over giving him that kind of scratch. I'm even coming around to Upshaw's ability with his hand in the dirt after watching him some more. That make three solid players who could realistically be in our reach I'm liking at DE.

Glad you kicked in on this. I didn't know Mincey got that much. I thought it was around $20/4. If Wimbley can play out of a three point stance then great we take a swing at him even if we're up against KC and their fat wallet. We've got Izzy signed and he's a solid but not spectacular guy and we should have a pretty good shot at one of the hybrid DE/LB's guys in the draft. It would be nice to get a vet for the sake of experience but a young guy trying to put his name on the map may do just as well or better. Look at what we got out of Manderson as a rookie. Too bad he couldn't repeat it. Which brings me to my concern about Merilcus. Is he just a pass rush specialist like Manderson turned out to be and not a guy who can be a 3 down player?

Whitney is the one guy we are rumored to be interested that I am most hesitant about. I never much care for the gusy with one year of tape worth watching, even though his tape is very impressive. To answer your question, though, there isn't some huge weakness against the run in his game that would automatically lock him into a pass-rushing specialist role. He has some three down ability in there with a bit of coaching up, because at times he stacked the run extremely well last season.
We still have a ton of holes to fill just with the draft.
