Come on Emery this is your chance, GET IT THE **** DONE !
I know he played DE in college, but can he still?
he's better suited for a 3-4 but I think he can play 4-3 too.
Actually, I think his best bet is to be put on a 4-3 team opposite a great pass rusher.
And before you say it, NO, not the Bears. Too expensive for a one trick pass rusher. Sure he made J.Webb his bitch in the preseason last year, but is that really enough to pay him that much?
Can we afford Wimbley and Okoye as well? How much is left in the coffers Soul?
From what I can see he's the best of whoever is left if you eliminate the over 30 crowd. He's not exactly a sack machine but he can get after a QB and he's not had any serious injuries and after last season I look at that as much as I do their performance.
If the Bears feel he can play as a DE I can't see why, after pursuing MWill and Mincey, that they wouldn't have an interest. Emery had Mincey locked up until the Jax GM came in with a last minute offer to keep him. I can't see any reason why the $$$ that was earmarked to pursue Mincey couldn't be used here. Izzy wasn't an expensive signing.
well abraham off the market so it is really trading or waiting on Freeney to get cut or if Wimbley gets cut as FA options. Other then that its the first round of the draft
I don't know shorty. The Spotrac site was tracking the remaining cap dollars for all of the teams but I haven't seen any updates in the last 24 hours. I think Windy posted something yesterday about $16 mil but I have no idea where that number came from.
Could we sign both? Sure, if we can sign them to 4 year deals and the first year numbers aren't to big the chances are better. I'm not sure what we offered Mincey but I got the impression it was around $20 mil for four years. If we signed these two to similar deal with an $8 mil SB and $1 mil first year salaries the 2012 cap cost for each would only be $3 mil. You could sign both to a deal like that and still have $10 mil left.
We'll need some $$$ reserved for signing draftees and a emergency reserve for the season but that rookie money won't hit the cap until summer so there'll be time to clear more cap space if needed. We should actually be able to make at least 3 or 4 more mid level signings.
