As far as the MWill thing that really sucks because like you said now it's obvious where we're going with the draft, at least the first round. While Emery is sneaky it's obvious we need pass rush help. I also think it's gonna be Mercilus just because of all the interest we showed in him already, unless Emery decides he likes Perry better. I wonder if Emery is a guy who would trade up or down, like I wonder if we're sitting tight where we are or if there's a guy he likes in the top of the second he'd go up after him.
I have to go back and check Chi but I was almost certain Jeffery ran 40's at the Combine around 4.6 of so. I jst remember how an article I read was talking about how much Floyd helped himself with better times that an anticipated whereas Jeffery didn't but I admit I'm not 100% certain.

As for the DE thing I don't know exactly how to interpret their interest in Mercilus. It could be he's their guy or it could be they're looking hard to see if he's a better pick than another. Last year Lovie went to NC to check out Marvin Austin and we ended up taking Paea instead. Could be the same this year. Maybe a little deception on the Bears part to throw other teams a curve?

I think if we take a DE it may well come down to one of those two. I don't think Jeffery will fall all that far but I don't think anyone see him anywhere near the first round anymore. Floyd and Hill have really shot up the boards since the Combine as have some of the second tier guys like Jones and Toon and it's pushed Jeffery back down from what I can tell.

Whether that's Perry, Mercilus, etc. With him sounding like a situational guy and with the "baggage", I don't know if I like the sound of him. What round would he be projected to go in?
Irvin is another of the huge crop of hybrid/tweeners in this years draft. Most of these guys are looked at as both OLB's and DE's. Irvin is listed as an OLB at 6'3" and 245lbs but his ranking is right up there with Perry's. I'm not sure any of these guys will start as a full time guy year one and since we brought Izzy back that becomes less important than having a guy who can get at the QB early in his career. We actually have a little time for him to fill out as a full time guy.

Which I am completely fine with if we grab a guy that actually has the potential to eventually be a full-time guy. Just another one I'll let Emery handle. lol

P.S. It may be time to change your location. Not Tebow's town anymore!

The trib article also states "Irvin said he played between 225 and 230 pounds in school, and he had a much more productive junior season when he had 14 sacks and was more of a situational player."

Do you think Lovie was scouting him as LB option or as a possible DE? Seems like he would project more as a 4-3 OLB or a 3-4 rushbacker rather than a true 4-3 DE who would be expected to (eventually) become a 3 down player.

Since the team was willing to bet the farm on Mario and moved immediately to Plan B in Mincey and missed on both, that indicates to me that DE is a very high priority so I don't see Irvin as being viewed by us in that same vein (esp. as a possible high pick). Am I wrong?

Re-signing Izzy does give us some insurance for a rookie to be mainly be a passing down rotational player at first while he learns the ropes with Izzy handling the obvious running situations. But since Izzy is only back on a 1 year deal, gotta figure that the Bears are going to want a guy that has the size to become a full time run & pass defending DE in year 2. I still like Mercilus or Perry or maybe Ingram (if he falls) there in 1. Mercilus is listed at 6' 4", 265 and probably could play in the 270s.

Nope, he went and weighed in and nothing else.

Thanks Zelezo. I guess we don't have an accurate time for him but the fact that he didn't run doesn't help him. It may have been at the Senior Bowl where he timed poorly or it was just that despite his size he struggled getting separation so the natural assumption is that he doesn't have much speed or a burst off the line.

His Pro Day is March 28th and I'm really excited to see how he does. If he was around in the second or third I'd want the Bears to take a loooong hard look at him. Brandon Marshall was also cited for struggling with separation and lacking speed and quickness coming out of the college. Jeffery's sophmore year was his best year and he was playing at around 215, over the offseason he said he wanted to gain weight cause he was tired of ending the year underweight. Going up to around 230 obviously he couldn't handle the baggage as well as he wanted and he obviously struggled a little more, while still putting up decent numbers and having a great final game before the ejection. He's down to 216 but he did it so fast I'd understand wanting to work on stuff, he probably should have done something at the combine but dropping down that fast isn't really that healthy so he's probably got to get back up to strength. I could be completely off base but if Emery sees value in him and his stock continues to fall I think there's potential there. He was a beast his sophmore year and he should be back at that playing weight. Just my 2 cents.

Jeffery also played last year with shit at QB I believe. The dude has the height (6' 3"+) and good hands so if he can run well and cut at 215-220 at his pro day, he'd be another big body WR to consider.

Yeah that's another thing to consider, he had garbage throwing to him. He went up against some of the top ranked corners in the upcoming draft people like Janoris Jenkins, Dre Kirkpatrick, and Alfonzo Dennard.

Just watching his highlights I could mistake him for Brandon Marshall.

Not a burner, but showed some soft hands and good open field moves/YAC there. Thanks for the link.
