    Why not Plaxico Burress?

He's big, and probably still has some gas left in the tank. If he came cheap on a one year deal would you want him?

Jason La Canfora at NFL.com sez:

    "
    Free-agent WR
    Plaxico Burress
remains in contact with several teams, including the Eagles, according to a league source.Burress drew some interest from the Eagles a year ago, when he signed with the Jets instead, and he has expressed his desire to play with Philadelphia QB Michael Vick in the past.Few veteran receivers remain on the market, as teams quickly picked through the position after free agency started Tuesday."

I think with Marshall's signing, I'd prefer to just draft a younger guy. There are only so many spots open for wide receiver and hopefully we can find a young, talented guy somewhere in rounds 2 to 4ish. Looks like Plax can still score, though!

I do understand the need to groom younger players, but it just seems like QB and WR we have no luck with development. With QB we had to go outside the organization to get a good player, and from what we've seen at WR for many years it looks like we have to do the same. I'm not saying go all Dan Snyder or do what the Eagles did last season, but our window is closing on our core defensive people, we might not have the years to groom young WRs before we're in rebuild mode.

We were close the past couple of years and last season before the collapse, it might be time to take our shot.

the reason we never get good WRs is that Angelo had one bad pick in the 1st and 2nd rounds and then never picked another WR higher than 3rd..

Not using first round picks on receivers is a very small part of it. Look at how many top (or even respectable) receivers were taken in later rounds. The Packers have the best receiving corps in football, but Jennings and Nelson were taken in the 2nd round, Driver in the 7th, and James Jones in the 3rd. Mike Wallace was taken in the 3rd and Welker and Miles Austin were undrafted. There are a bunch of other average-or-better receivers taken late, also. We haven't just missed on making #1s, we missed on making #2s. There is plenty of WR talent in any draft. Angelo was horrible at drafting WRs. Also, Drake is a terrible coach who gets nothing out of the receivers. Just like with QBs, receivers can be made or ruined by the system they start out it. We have improved the OC, improved the QB coach and improved the GM, but until we improve the WR coach, we aren't going to be turning drafted receivers into top guys.

    I wouldn't be against it

But also got to consider marshal is on a three year deal. It would be ideal to add in a rookie who can learn from marshal and take over as a number one eventually. Sort of how Indy did when Harrison was done and Wayne took over, in ny Burris flamed out nicks took over, steelers ward done and Wallace and brown took over etc

Or we can do the ja way and wait until its too late and the whole team goes into the shitter adding band aid after band aid which eventually got us no where

Both end up on IR because Plax shoots himself in the other leg this time and Marshall's wife misses his abdomen this time and cuts off his balls instead. Well we'd probably get our wish about new ownership since Ginny would probably have a heart attack.

That should be the plan but as long as Marshall stays productive and out of trouble he'll only be around 30 when this deal is up and should be good for at least a few more years then. Despite that I'd still look to pickup and other WR who has the stuff to become a #1 guy and work him into the plan. I'm gonna do a thread analyzing the second tier group.
