Oh they wouldn't prevent it in his case bf. I was just sayin' that's how the rules read. Even if a guy retires as long as he was still under contract when he retired his right belong to the last team he was with. Now in the case of RWill since he's not under contract he could retire from playing like Moss did and come back to play for any team he wanted to.
It's just a rule to prevent guys from suborning contracts in order to get out from under and go to a new team without the old either approving it or receiving compensation if they expect it. In Barber's case the Bears would most likely grant him the release anyway if he asked for it.
