After playing seven seasons, running back Marion Barber has decided to retire from the NFL.
Marion Barber
The 5-11, 218-pounder from Minnesota spent the first six years of his career with the Dallas Cowboys before signing with the Bears prior to the 2011 season.
“I want to thank everyone who gave me the opportunity to play, and I’m very thankful to have had the chance to suit up for two of the NFL’s most storied organizations,” Barber said.
Barber, who will turn 29 in June, entered the league with the Cowboys in 2005 as a fourth-round pick. He appeared in 99 games with 42 starts, rushing for 4,780 yards and 53 touchdowns on 1,156 carries while also catching 179 passes for 1,330 yards and 6 TDs.
In his lone season with the Bears, Barber played in 11 games with one start, leading the team with six touchdowns while rushing for 422 yards on 114 attempts and catching five passes for 50 yards.
Barber said that he’s grateful to the four head coaches he played for—Bill Parcells, Wade Phillips and Jason Garrett in Dallas and Lovie Smith in Chicago—as well as their assistants.
“I want to thank everyone who helped me become a better player,” Barber said. “I owe a lot to a lot of coaches, and am also very grateful to the owners and organizations I played for. Last but not least, I want to thank the fans for the support and inspiration they gave me.”

I still feel like he got Bill Bucknered. Had a great season as a backup, but made one very critical mistake and now everyone hates him.

Yeah BDM thought that too. I still like his style of running and still believe he has a few years left as a backup.

Now that's a classy way to end your career. The guy has been a warrior his whole career but he's a good example of just how fast a RB can decline when chronic injuries pile up. He's not the runner he once was anymore. It's a shame that most of what will be remembered from his last season were those two big mistakes in the Bronco game.
All the best to you for a happy and productive post NFL life MB III. You were one tough cookie and I always admired your running style. Never go down easy as Walter said.
I'm getting to that age where a lifetime warranty just doesn't mean as much to me anymore as an afternoon nap.

+1
I too have always been a fan of Barber and had him on my FFL team several times. I was hoping he would stick around for another year or two but I think his nagging injuries contributed to his ultimate decision and wish him well in the future.

Ah I'm going to miss Marion the Barbarian. Our backfield is looking awesome this year regardless. Anyone think he's done this so he end his contract and sign with a new team next year?

If he un-retires he's still property of the Bears. They would need to release him in order for him to sign elsewhere. That was the deal with Favre and all his trauma/drama too. Eventually the Packers needed to release him in order for the Jets to sign him.

Oh! Very interesting, hm I wonder if we would stop him though. I don't think we'd really have room for him if he did come back tot he league. Forte and Bush are both sick and if Bell can get a better grip on the ball we've got young talent in him.
