Draft decisions that would make you nervous about Emery...
What trade or draft pick do you see getting picked that you would consider worst case scenario?

You know Henry there are enough good football players in the early rounds that I don't see us coming away without players who can help the cause. If there was a worst case in my mind it would be being forced to take a WR in one as a BPA because all other options are closed to him. I don't think the odds of that are all that great though.
The biggest remaining needs in my book are pass rushers and an upgrade along the Oline. If it goes the way I'd love to see it go we get our pass rusher in one and we fill a future need and possibly an immediate upgrade with a stud OG in round two. Or if we got incredibly lucky we find DeCastro still there at #19 and can't pass on that opportunity to get a future All Pro lineman and we use our second on a pass rusher. After that I'd like to see either a LB or CB and a WR as guys to start building around for down the road.
One thing that throws a potential monkey wrench in this plan is not being able to bring Okoye back. If that happens as needy as we are for good inside rushers as well I could see us drafting a guy like Fletcher Cox to play in the DT rotation and possibly get some play at DE as well. He's spotted more as a 3t DT but much like Melton you could probably play him at DE as a pass rusher if the need arose. Even with Okoye returning we're still short on manpower on the Dline so that has to be a priority on either round one or two depending on how it plays out.
What I expect is to be surprised by a find or two Emery comes up with that most of us wouldn't think of. It may come early on or it may come in the later rounds but I'm betting he finds a diamond in the rough somewhere, takes a chance on him and we get a very good ballplayer. A Briggs or Bennett or a Melton kind of pick. About all that could disappoint me is if he used a higher pick on a TE just because everyone suddenly sees that as the current trend. We don't need another TE right now.

I'm getting to that age where a lifetime warranty just doesn't mean as much to me anymore as an afternoon nap.

Kendall Wright is really the only one of the rumored or expected guys that I would be pissed about us drafting at 19.

Yeah if Okoye signs elsewhere that gums up a lot. I wouldn't mind seeing Paea rotate w/Melton at the 3tech and draft a NT. "Worst case" would be drafting Poe. Would be a nice NT rotation but still very much behind the 8 ball and in need of DE.

Not re-signing Okoye (yet) is the one demerit I have to give Emery so far this offseason. It's pretty crucial given our pass rush need.

He'll probably resign and fairly cheap. Unless I'm mistaken, there hasn't been any interest in him by other teams. I know that teams running a 3-4 scheme certainly will not be looking to bring him in.

I am hoping that the Bears seriously consider going after Vontaze Burfict and Cliff Harris with some of their later rd picks. I'd like to see the Bears take a gamble with their 3rd and 4th rd picks.

That's a good point. He's a much better 290lb UT than he was a 315lb NT and he's really not built to play a 5t DE spot in a 3-4 either. I think if they can incentivize an offer that gives him some nice bonuses for sacks and TFL's we may get him to commit longer term. I'd like to get the guy cornered for at least 3 or 4 years while he's in his prime.
If we don't sign him we end up very thin at the 3T spot. I think Paea is proving to be more NT than 3T although he's a much better pass rushers and penetrator than you normally see in a NT. We don't really have much behind Melton, Paea and Toe.

I agree with you Soul. Personally, I'm very excited about Paea's future witht eh Bears. I was so thrilled when the Bears drafted him. He's quick and powerful and could ebcome a superb player. I knew that we would not see his true potential last year because he was coming off a knee surgery and was hurt with the lockout. But I expect him to be an impact player this year. And I expect Melton to get better. I thought the CHI press was a bit hard on Melton this past year. I know that Lovie hyped him up a great deal but Melton is an up and coming player and a FA after this season. I'm very excited about our D-Line and I can deal with the Bears going with Mercilus over Floyd, even though I'm a Floyd fanboy.
