Not much sympathy with someone who thinks 8 mil and an even bigger payday next year (or the release he wants).
Suck it up, put the money the bank and repeat next year.
Matt - if you want I can put it in bullet form so it's easy to understand.
Houston I think you just hit upon the biggest detraction to any and all of these various "social networking" sites. In a moment of anger or frustration people post things without thinking of the overall impact it may have. This is one instance with Forte where he just swung a whole lot of people who were his supporters and sportswriters who were at least neutral over to the negative side of the ledger.
I don't use Twitter and I won't have a Facebook account because I believe that certain parts of life and certain emotions shouldn't be exposed for the world to see. Although I can truly understand Forte's initial response there was no need for him to convey it so publicly. Now he's faced with either retracting it or the hard task of biting the bullet and apologizing in public for the outburst.
This is also the reason why people with short fuses shouldn't own handguns. LOL

Just an FYI, there's no law that says you have to post the most intimate details of your life on either FB or Twitter. Most of us don't. The ones that do usually have memes written about them.

Just a little Monday AM FYI for you there Bf. You might want to focus on the sentence I highlighted in red about Ross's veracity. He's known for having a tendency to overstate the truth. I think this should take care of any questions about Marshall being cut if the trade didn't take place.
Now............calling the Bears front office a joke when it was the Broncos front office in the McDikhead era who traded both Cutler and Marshall away thereby dooming the team to a fate far worse than anything the Bears have suffered is the real joke. And it's on you.
And finally. Matt Forte isn't one of the top 3 RB's in the NFL. Not even the top 5 but there's no doubt by his continued success no matter which second rate QB he plays with that Marshall is definitely a top 5 WR and we got him for the equivalent of 3rd and 4th round picks in the 2012 draft. Unlike the Forte rumor this trade actually did take place and it was a screaming bargain.
By all that is holy Brandon Marshall should have been worth at least a first round pick if not more yet the Broncos let him go for two 2nds and we pick him up for less than two current thirds. Now ask yourself, which team really got hosed?
Ross Waffles on Comments About Marshall...............
Dolphins' Ross on Marshall report: 'That's in the past' Dolphins owner Stephen Ross is ready to put talk about the Brandon Marshall trade behind him. (Miami Herald Photo / March 26, 2012) |
By Dan Pompei, Tribune reporter 1:44 p.m. CDT, March 26, 2012
PALM BEACH, Fla. --
Miami Dolphins owner Steven Ross addressed a report Monday that he told an upset season-ticket holder that receiver
Brandon Marshall would have been cut if the team couldn't have traded him.
At the NFL meetings, Ross told reporters, “That's in the past. That's history. It's behind us. It's a trade. He wasn't cut. We got fair value and we think the football team is better for it.”
The Dolphins ended up trading Marshall to the
Bears on the first day when trades were permitted. The Bears gave up a third-round pick this year and a third-round pick next year.
Ross is known for saying things that aren’t necessarily 100 percent accurate. While it is accepted that new Dolphins coach Joe Philbin wanted to part ways with Marshall, it is implausible to think the Dolphins would have cut a player of Marshall’s caliber in March without compensation.
If the Dolphins couldn’t have traded Marshall in the offseason, it is likely they would have brought him to training camp to see if a trade market might develop for him after teams started losing players to injuries.
The Dolphins were looking to move on from Marshall in part because he was so hard on their quarterbacks, in part because Philbin was looking for different kind of receiver, in part because Marshall was high maintenance of the field and in part because they needed cap space.

I never implied that bro. All I'm saying is the ease of access to that avenue for venting frustration has the potential to create embarrassments and I think in Forte's case that's exactly what happened. He's been pretty cool about this so far and kept his composure until this outburst. Do you think he's wishing he hadn't done it now?
I'm just offering my personal viewpoint on that media as a form of communication. I'm not asking or expecting anyone else to share my opinion of it. Like my comparison states. People with an anger issue probably shouldn't walk around carrying handguns and frustrated franchised NFL players should probably cancel their Twitter accounts until they sign a new contract. LOL

True. I was simply referring to you saying that you don't have a fb or twitter account because you don't think certain information needs to be shared, etc. I was just pointing out that you can have an annount without posting personal info. i don't list a relationship status, etc for that reason.

LOL, And in addition to not using social networking sites I do my level best to keep my name out of the newspapers and off post office walls. Never a good thing in our profession is it?

Not trolling, i'm a huge Patriots fan and also a closet Bears fan. Forte is one of my favorite players in the NFL and absolutely NOTHING would make me happier than to see Forte in a Pats jersey.
However, it's simply not even a remote possibility. The Pats MIGHT give up the picks, and that's a big first hurdle, but the thing that makes this rumor stop dead in it's tracks is the FACT that the Patriots do not value the RB position enough to pay Forte anywhere near what he wants, much less the going rate of the Franchise Tag for RB. If they wanted to pay a RB, they would have kept Green-Ellis for the $3mill he was askin.
It's simply not going to happen.
You will probably see an uptick in rumors today as people are tweeting Evan Silva's prediction article as fact. That's what caught my attention and caused me to seek the source.
I do think Forte will ultimately stay in CHI. It's a smart decision by the FO to bring in Bush (although im surprised Bush was interested as he could have gotten the cinci job to himself or at least been the better half of a committe). This tandem rivals that of Foster/Tate. I like the Bears chances in 2012 and still think they need to invest high in WR. I've never been a Cutler fan and never will be (and why i'm a closet fan and not a true fan!).
Good luck in 2012 gents. May the Forte be with you.
PS - Shefter just RT'd that both teams have said there is no chance of this happening. I take that to mean that the discussion either never happened or that it was extremely brief. FWIW
